Lets say you were told to do something by your boss and this certain something is typical viewed as being evil. But you don't know that to begin with. Do you go through with it especially if your life--er job is on the line? Does that make the person who did it evil or the person who thought it up more evil ( Read more... )

I've found that a good question to ask is who does it benefit.

Well aren't you a selfless one. Unless you mean helping yourself, then I can see where you'd be coming from. [ Stopping the Apocalypse and all just for his own benefit--yeah he knows it all too well. ]

Well if you wish to make it selfish, you then consider who you are, and are you worth the sacrifice of all those who will be hurt by what you do? It's rare when the answer to that second question is "yes", but it's not unfathomable.

Don't have to consider who I am at all. Already know it and I don't see anything wrong with being selfish sometimes. Sometimes the selfishness actually saves people; so I guess being selfish has it's perks. [ Because honestly six billion people saved is pretty good--even though he's supposed to be bad. ]

That all depends on what your selfishness is about. You can benefit others and benefit yourself at the same time.

Guess you're right. [ Because that's exactly what he did. ] Still benefiting yourself always comes back to bite you in the ass.

I wouldn't say always. If no one ever did it, we'd wind up running in circles.

Well sure. If people didn't take chances we probably wouldn't have any of the stuff we do. Like--er Galileo and Edison. Especially Edison, that bugger is a lifesaver. [ Electricity you are amazing. That and cellphones but only because he can tie up half of London's phone lines in the matter of minutes. ]

At some point, it's no longer selfish enough to be considered selfish. The hard part is drawing that line.

Seems like people finding a happy medium always causes some trouble. Usually always see one extreme or the other.

Indeed. And where do you think you lie?

Like to think a happy medium--though that's a matter of perspective isn't it?

It is, but at least you believe you're in the middle. If you can see leeway to either side, you can't be too badly off.

Dunno if seeing the leeway is a good thing. Stuff like that can get you into loads of trouble.
