Anthony Minghella has died! He died after a cancer operation. I didn't even know he had cancer.

A truly tragic loss- he was so well known and loved, so very talented, and so young (only 54!). For you Alan fans, he wrote and directed Truly Madly Deeply among other amazing, award winning movies such as The English Patient and Cold Mountain.

It seems that a lot of people chose this week to die. It's very strange. My Yahoo! entertainment news thing in my mail box was reporting a few deaths, and I read somewhere else that Arthur C. Clarke died. Of course, he was the only one I cared about, even though I've never read one of his books and thought the Kubrick version of his 2001: A Space Odyssey was horrendously boring. But still, he was a famous sci-fi writer, and I feel a little sad for it.

And then this week we found out Dame Maggie Smith is battling breast cancer too. :(
