my grandfather and father both fought fires for a living out west (they were with the u.s. department of the interior), and my brother carries on the tradition as a volunteer firefighter in the mountain forests of northern california. these photos are amazing -- as are you!
> these photos are amazing -- as are you! *awwww* ~ that's really is a nice thing to say, but really it's just something an ordinary person (that's me) decided she wanted to do. I don't remember my mother ever actually enstilling a sense of 'community' in either my sister or myself, well - at least not conciously, but she must have done something, because both her daughters are volunteers. My sister is a volunteer surf life-saver on the beaches of Perth. In the summer she's out there each weekend for a few hours in the sun and surf making sure people swim safe. Now I take my hat off to her, because I think what she does is far more dangerous than anything I have to do. Maybe it's just because I'm not a competent swimmer as her?.... I just think that she goes out and pulls people in distress back onto the beach (and it usually only happens in really rough conditions) just scares/amazes me... I am very proud of her. I hope our 'mum' is proud of us both :o)
Burt's Bees lip balm. The best stuff I have every used. Kept it close when fighting fires especially since I was in an air mask a lot. It was easy to keep a tube in my mask bag since that stayed on the truck and it wouldn't melt. Any good lip balm would probably help you out.
