Fic: What He Wanted

Jun 03, 2006 22:23

21/6/06: I edited this slightly, because I realised that having a succubus just wouldn't work, that from what I could find, it wouldn't be able to have the affect I wanted it to have in later chapters. So, the succubus has been replaced with a witch. Other than that, it's the same.

Title: What he wanted 1/?.
Author: Auryn
Rating: PG-13, this chapter at least.
Spoilers: Possibly upto, definitely including the episode 'Something Wicked'.
Warnings: Eventual Wincest
Author's notes: This is the first Supernatural fic I've written, and it came from an idea that just wouldn't leave me alone. This is unbeta'd, but if anyone wanted to do so, please feel free to email me.
Summary: Dean's always taken care of Sam. Sam's going to repay the favour the only way he can think of. Even if it destroys them both.

Chapter 1

It had been easy. Too easy. What should have been one of the hardest decisions of his life, Sam summed up to his brother in two words.

“I'm staying.”

“What?” Dean asked. “Where?”

“Here,” Sam clarified.

“Here? In Fitchburg, Wisconsin?”

Sam laughed. “No, idiot. When we kill it, the thing that killed mum, and Jess. I'm staying.”

“You're not going back to Stanford?” Dean asked, eyes narrowing in suspicion. “Why not? You were dead set on having a normal life, back there.”

“Yeah, well, you were right. I'm not normal,” Sam shrugged uncomfortably. “We're not normal,” Dean snorted, and Sam continued, ignoring his brother's interjection. “And no matter how much I want it, I'm never going to have a normal life. Besides, doing this,” Sam sighed, “especially this last case, with Michael and Asher,” he shrugged again. “It helped me, I don't know, get my priorities straight. You were right,” he repeated. “This is more important.”

Dean was silent for a minute after Sam finished his little speech. Then, “Who are you and what have you done with my brother?”

“Stop kidding around Dean, I'm being serious here,” Sam protested.

“So am I. You're possessed, aren't you?” Dean asked, reaching for their father's journal, and beginning to flip through it.

“What will it take to convince you I am Sam...”

“Start acting normally for a start,” Dean cut in.

Sam glared at him. “And that I'm serious. I'm not leaving, Dean.”

“I'll believe it when I see it, Sam. Now come on, we've got to deal with this witch,” Dean said in such a way that Sam knew the conversation was closed. Sam sighed.

“Fine.”

***

Looking back, Sam thought the witch they had killed was good for one thing and one thing only.

It gave him an insight into his brother. His dreams, his desires, his needs. His wants.

Dean, Sam had realized, had what Sam called a Sammy-Complex. Dean thought it was his job to take care of his younger sibling, no matter what the circumstances. It had taken Sam a long time to realize this, to realize that Dean was constantly putting his needs above Dean's own, and that he had been doing it all his life. In their childhood, Dean was the constant that Sam remembered. It wasn't their father, although he was there frequently. But Dean was the one Sam went to for help, when something had happened in school, good or bad. Dean was the one Sam went to when he couldn't understand what Dad was trying to teach him, or he needed more help. And Dean was always there for his Sammy. Sam had just never realized before how much what he had done had affected Dean, his leaving, his casual indifference of what they would each do after they killed the demon.

Dean had done so much for Sam over the years, sacrificed so much so Sam could have what he wanted, whether he needed it or not.

It was time to repay the favour.

He had tried the easiest route. Dean wanted him to stay, and he would stay, for Dean. But Dean didn't know that. And he didn't believe him anyway. Sam guessed he deserved that though.

So Sam would try another route. The information he had gotten from the witch was going to be put to good use.

And even though it would probably destroy him to do it, and it would definitely destroy Dean if he ever found out why this shift in their relationship began, Sam was going to give Dean what he wanted.
