Zzzzzzombies!

Oct 28, 2008 10:30

On Sunday a couple of friends and I decided to go check out the zombie walk at the last minute. The munchkin ended up too afraid of it all to really go participate. So, we watched from a safe distance... across the street at various points along the route. A friend of mine ran off to go take pictures of the mob while the other frightened passers by ( Read more... )

I would never know that was a last-minute costume. Well done!

You know, I was terrified of zombies as a child. They frightened me more than any other horror monster, and frankly, I still don't like them--gory, mindless, decomposing...euchhh. Give me a sexy vampire or a wispy ghost anyday. I am not keen on this shift in goth fixation from vampire-oriented to zombie-oriented--have you noticed what I mean? Sure, there are still vamps, but it seems like these days it is zombie this and zombie that everywhere you look. (Zombie pinups?!?)

Oh yes, I most certainly know what you mean! I thought it was a Portland thing. But, who knows! I have definitely come to the conclusion over the last couple of months that as a proper Portlander that I am required to have a bevy of costume items on hand for all kinds or random costumey events, esp a zombie & pirate costume. Seems to be pretty much mandatory around here! :p

Did you guys end up going to the pumpkin patch that day? If so, how was it?

Yeah--if someone ever puts on a Zombie Pirate Ball, there are going to be a lot of wet pants in Portland! And if they have vegan cupcakes too, we might have to get out the defibrillators.

Of course, I am pretty much as guilty as anyone else on the pirate and vegan-cupcake fronts. I have been thinking I need to dig up the photo I have somewhere of the cake I made when I threw S a pirate birthday party (in 2003, mind you, before pirates were cliché)--it had a skull and crossbones made of toasted coconut!

We did go to the pumpkin patch, and it was a nice pumpkin patch. However, we got there at 12 on the dot, and no one else showed up until 12:45 (not even the organizers, who apparently got lost). So of course since we had to leave to get Rowan down for nap, we really didn't get to socialize much. Everyone was nice, though. There was one little girl just a bit older than Rowan, and a couple of kids around Mia's age. So, lesson learned: lovely folks, not highly punctual. No big surprise there! I'd go again.

And here I was worried about getting there at twelve on the dot as well! *heh* Surprising that the organizer wouldn't have allowed for enough time to cushion against the possibility of getting lost. But, then again kids do make our live somewhat unpredictable at times!

I'm glad to hear that you had a good, albeit short visit to the patch. Hopefully I'll get a chance to meet up with them at some point soon. I'm not sure yet, but I may try to stop by their Halloween party tomorrow since it's nearby. We'll see how that works out..... So many things going on tomorrow! I am so excited that I get to go out on Halloween for a change!!! *bounce bounce*
