Oh, the last sentence--catching that fascinating moment.

That moment, Sherlock's downcast eyes (tender? apologetic? him?), really got to me.

I know--and it's an odd thing to say (what was Moffat thinking when he wrote it, I wonder?). Not the abrupt--don't do that, but "While I'm flattered..."

Yes! For a man with supposedly no social graces, Sherlock handles the potentially awkward and sensitive moment beautifully. Perhaps it's meant to show how John brings out the best in him. Or maybe it's a slash tease. ;D

I really liked this fic! Especially
to feel his own dull-gray self burst into dazzling color, sharp-edged and detailed

Thank you! Love how Sherlock sees John and helps John see himself that way too.

Some brilliant imagery in here - I love the 'John's not like everyone else' line, and the couple that follow it particularly. So gorgeous, I might even forgive you for leaving me with a lump in the throat at the end :)
Great work.

What's with that ending anyway? Couldn't resist ending with "bereft". Gotta stock up on more cheerful "b" words before trying another 221!
Thank you very much for the lovely comment!

Oh well done. I don't normally like short ones like this (There's just never enough to read), but this one is quite good. And his eyes are certainly something to behold.

His gaze is always so wonderfully intense, but I was also struck by the power of that "look away" moment. Glad you liked it, short as it was!
