Mac had left the office early for the first time in, well, ever. The invitation from Lenore hadn't been entirely suprising considering their discussion last night and he had to admit her claims at her cooking skills had piqued his curiosity. Not to mention that it hadn't been a great day, to say the least, and it had been awhile since Mac had let

"This is for you. Or possibly for us," he told her, holding out the bottle to her.
He was oblivious to her mood, more or less. She masked it well and he wasn't really trying to read her at the moment anyway. He had been lad for an excuse to shove off early and he was looking forward to seeing what she had in store.

Muggle liquor, after all, wasn't appreciated quite so well by most wizards, so many of his associates would have just turned up their noses and declared it not so delightful as firewhiskey or any other number of wizarding drinks. Lenore, he knew, had retained an apppreciation for such things just as he had. Not to mention.. it was alcohol.
He nearly frowned as she mentioned not being sure he would show. Sure, he kept people intentionally at a distant, but that statement bothered him more than he would have liked. He pushed the thought away and smiled at her.
"A drink should start things off nicely," he agreed. "And I do believe you owe me a tour. It's only fair.."

He was worried about her, to be truthful. He didn't doubt she'd get through this mood - whatever it was - but he wasn't used to seeing her so seemingly vulnerable and he decided he didn't much like it.
Especially when it only made him want to protect her from whatever demons were hovering about.

Lenore wasn't sure if she was teasing or being honestly curious now and moved to the fridge to put things away. Probably teasing. She knew why she didn't have anyone at home; Lenore was happy that way. She loathed trying to bend to please people. Was ruddy awful at it, actually, because she never could manage to think they deserved to be happy more than she did. Ah, well. No regrets here.

"Oh, I like to keep them all for myself," he quipped with a smirk that might ave been a little forced. Her mood seemed to be contagious and he very nearly found himself answering her question truthfully. Good job he stoppe dhimself from that in time. She certainly didn't invite him over to watch him brood.
