It really says a lot about Lightning's issues that her default response, when she wants to feel she has Done A Thing but doesn't have any thing available to do, is to punch Snow...and a lot about his issues that he lets her.

I always worry that my enjoyment of the "Lightning punches Snow" dynamic means I'm taking WRONG WRONG WRONG pleasure in what is essentially an abusive relationship.

Dreadful, awful, precious, wonderful.

I worry about that sometimes in various fandoms, but I think there's an important distinction to be made between "find this character/dynamic/trope interesting/enjoyable in fiction" and "consider this behavior acceptable in real life", you know? The one doesn't imply the other.

And there's so much stuff to their relationship, so much to really dig one's teeth into, so much insight into their separate personalities - what it says about Snow, that he repeatedly seems completely okay with letting people hurt him if it'll make them feel better, wow why are you the most emotionally well-adjusted person in this PC party - and so much change - the moment when Lightning realizes she's been using Snow as a target because he's there and punchable and their personalities don't click, and how much of a dick move with potentially-fatal consequences that is - and how their relationship affects/is affected by their relationships with other characters (Serah, Hope, Fang
