Parties can be such a bore

Characters: Morag MacDougal and Terence Higgs (though he'll hex you if you use his first name).
Rating: PG13 - for elicit substance use...
Summary: Taking time out of a boring Ministry party a girl and a boy flirt.

Higgs was bored. Over the last few years he had attended what had to be a million of these overly-stuffy parties thrown by the Minstry and while he always looked pretty damn irresistible and left with a new conquest on almost every single occasion, his Gringott's vaults had yet to feel the increased business that his grandfather had assured him that rubbing shoulders with polite society would solicit. Even so, he still found himself there yet again, bored to tears, expected to dance with the same mindless women and make small talk with the same boring bureaucrats. He wasn't quite ready to examine his reasoning for that though... not when she was standing on the far side of the ballroom.

Morag was bored out of her mind but she'd promised to show up as the family representative and to behave herself (mostly) while there. Unfortunately it was one of the most boring parties of the year. She took a glass of champagne from a passing waiter wishing it was good strong scotch as she watched the most interesting person - at least by her way of thinking, sidle out the French doors onto the balcony.

Intrigued, she slowly made her way around, thankful that no one seemed to notice her liberating a bottle of Lagavulin as she followed Higgs outside despite the chill to the air.

Higgs heard her step onto the balcony and by the scent of her perfume knew right away that the blonde who'd followed him wasn't like all the rest of the women in the room - if he could claim her he would but she'd have none of that. Taking a drag of the joint he'd just lit, Higgs turned his head slightly and arched his eyebrow at her. "Well, if it isn't Miss Morag MacDougal. Had enough of the simpering idiots for the evening then?"

She sipped the scotch, eyeing the joint. "I grew tired of them hours ago. If I share the scotch are you going to share that?"

Without answering, Higgs handed it over, letting his eyes rake over her as she inhaled. He'd always thought that Liam and Ewan MacDougal's little sister was more than beautiful but when she attended things like this wearing dresses like that it was worth the second glance to get a better look. "Didn't bring glasses then and you don't mind sharing the bottle with the likes of me? I'm touched."

She just lifted a brow and handed over the bottle, teasing him just to see what he'd do. "There are so many ways I could reply, all of which are certain to make you blush."

He laughed wryly and gave her a lascivious smirk. "I don't blush easily," he quipped before tipping the bottle and taking a long swig. Wiping the lip of the bottle before handing it back to her. "Though I'm sure you knew that already."

She grinned cheekily, taking the bottle and handing back the joint. "Are we to play 'guess what I know about you' then?"

He took another drag and then nodded, a crooked smile spreading across his lips. "All right then, care to guess what I know about you?"

She laughed. "That all depends on whether or not Li and Ewan have been pissed enough around you to talk about me and if you were sober enough to remember, doesn't it?"

He leaned into her personal space and then, telling her more truth than he'd intended, whispered heavily into her ear, "The extent of my knowledge does not come from your brothers. In fact, I think it's them who might blush if I said what I know aloud in their presence."

She scowled playfully. "Don't believe all you hear. I could claim it is all lies but you've not said what exactly you think you know."

He chuckled and moved back from her. She'd not risen to his bait as so many other witches would. That gave him pause and reminded him just what kind of witch she was. He wasn't certain whether he ought to be happy or sad about that all he did was smile until he was certain. "I thought the point of this game was to guess. Perhaps I misunderstood."

"Well, maybe you should guess something I know about you," she said with a wink and then sipping from the bottle she pondered what he could possibly know about her. "But, I'll give the guessing a go first. I'd have to guess that you only know two things about me that aren't common knowledge."

"Only two? I think you underestimate my deductive skills," he teased lightly, offering the joint to her once more. "Enlighten me. What do I know that isn't common knowledge?"

She took it and had a small drag before handing it back so he could take the last hit. "I'd say you know I loathe these galas as much as you do and," she nodded toward the joint he was putting out, "that I don't mind illicit substances. That one I do hope you keep to yourself, yeah?"

Snorting at that, he ducked his head and grinned over at her. "My lips are sealed, Princess. Those would be two things I do know more than the common man. I'd say that means you win."

"Oh now, you've learnt two more things. I am a princess and I love winning." She leaned against the railing. "But you've not guessed what I might know about you. I suppose I can tuck all I know away for use at a later date."

"Me?" he hedged, looking back into the crowded room behind them and then back at her. He was certain that people were probably looking for them and the very idea had him nearly rolling his eyes. "I'm an enigma wrapped in a mystery. Though I can't imagine that there would be anything of note to tease me with later." He nodded his head toward the ballroom and offered her his arm, "We should get back, yeah?"

"You go ahead," she said with a small smile, turning to look out over the gardens. "I think it's time for me to leave."

"It was... nice seeing you again," he said lowly with a light nod, unsure why he couldn't suppress the feelings he was, but more than certain that they had everything to do with the witch beside him and how special she was. "Feel free to escape with me for a breath of fresh air - among other things - any time you like."

Unable to resist flirting with him a bit more, she gave him a cheeky grin and wink. "I'm not that difficult to find if one wants to find me," she said, pulling her wand and Apparating a moment later.

Higgs stood there looking at the space she'd just vacated for several minutes. He'd known Morag MacDougal for almost as long as he could remember - her brothers being in his year at Hogwarts and by the very nature that generally all pure bloods know one another but there was something about her that just... well, he couldn't explain. It was more than just her looks. She challenged him in ways that no other witch had ever done before. The way she made him feel when he was in her presence... it just made him want to go out of his way to have reason to be near her again.

higgs, morag
