I like this: "The theme of the Thanksgiving holiday also changed each year to reflect an important event to be thankful for." Why don't we do that anymore? (Well, I guess families do, independent of each other, which is fair enough, but it does sound like something that could unite people across country.)
Yeah, mother-in-law. I'm not technically married, "just" common-law or de facto as we say back home, but as far as I'm concerned I am, so she is. If that makes sense.
Columbus day. Exciting. Do they celebrate what a scam he was? ;)
Damn that Cotton for being so stinking cute!!!! :D
It's a lovely one of Gaia too.
From what I understand it's giving thanks for the harvest, which would mean that we'd celebrate it in April I suppose. Which would collide with Easter from time to time, which is why I reckon we don't do it. Who knows......
Tell Adam's Mum to stuff her chicken up her arse!! I know you never would though. :)
Anna (above) pointed me in the direction of Wiki which says that the indigenous people did offer thanks for the harvest, but that the colonial settlers sporadically used it to give thanks for various different things, and that for a long time something new was "thanked" each year - a practice that they don't do anymore. And it seemed to say that it was an older tradition than the colonial American one - but the indigenous people throughout the continent seemed to practice it as giving thanks for the harvest.
Yeah no I didn't, and everything's always very nice and friendly in person. She just tends to take it out on Adam over the phone, which is hardly fair.
I can't handle it when people can't confront their problems face to face. But I think Adam's Mum needs to confront herself first.
Again, we'll know it'll never happen.... although I do live in hope, maybe coming to the wedding, pulling her out of her comfort zone might open her eyes a little.

It's Columbus day here. Big deal. All it means is that there was no mail service :(

They are tempting aren't they?! I don't get to cuddle them often because of my allergies, but it's always so nice to get a hug from them :)
