A walk in the park

Jun 20, 2009 14:46

Last night I had a dream that I was back home and all the footy teams had changed. Like they'd gone through all these new mergers and changed their colours and stuff, and I didn't recognise any of them anymore. I mean, I don't even really follow the AFL but I think the point was how far removed I am, over here, and how things do change but I'm not ( Read more... )

Thanks for posting. I am envious that you are somewhere where you can see animals close by. I can't. The pic with Tamsyn and your elephant is very cute, too. I like the mouflon sheep. I saw them in the wild when I still lived in Europe. Also like the yak - but they stink :)

I tend to forget it's there. I think this was only the third time I went to see them, though it's free and not far away.

Wild mouflon sheep! So envious! Where in Europe did you live? Envious of that too :) I don't remember the yaks smelling much but they were across from the bison, which tended to smother any other smells!

I saw lots of mouflon sheep and "Murmeltiere" (kind of a gopher, but very cute) on a trip to Switzerland. I used to live in Germany, and Austria and Switzerland were nice holiday options.

Yaks have some kind of musty and cheesy smell. I saw some at a zoo once.

Wow very envious. Only place in Europe I've been to is France; I'd love to see more, especially the Czech Republic.

Musty cheesy smell? Ugh! People ride them don't they? (or used to?) That can't be pleasant!

Llamas are awesome! According to a coworker who has raised both llamas and horses, if you raise llamas from a young age they are very affectionate and quite smart. They can be taught to do llama-style agility courses, which is what she is doing with hers. Can you imagine -a llama jumpting through hoops?

Really?! That's so cool! I'd love to see that! I'd love to have my own pet llama, I confess. I used to have pet lambs, growing up, and you wouldn't find a more devoted, loving, loyal pet. They were so adorable. But you couldn't teach them tricks.

Glad to hear they're affectionate - I thought they were a bit like camels, with a reputation for biting or spitting.

Hawpies or maybe the Mawks?

Lovely animal photos.

Ha ha! I think Fitzroy merged with the Sydney Swans years ago and became a whole new team, the Bulldogs. But what suburb can they affiliate themselves to? A Melbourne/Sydney team - just seems crazy! Yet it worked.

No, you're not the only one who thinks sheep are pretty! Llamas always make me think of the opening credits to Monty Python and the Holy Grail, where everyone was some type of Llama - including Ralph the Wonderllama.

Oh and the last peacock has been gone for a while now.

Oh good.

Huh, I don't remember the intro to the Holy Grail at all - I can't remember there being llamas in it! I'll have to re-watch it. Ralph the Wonderllama!! Only Monty Python ;)

Oh of course it has. I mean it'd be over 30 years old by now if it was still around, silly me! They just became such a fixture, I always picture them when I think of the farmhouse.

I just noticed your comment above to Newwaytowrite. Fitzroy Lions went to Brisbane to become the Brisbane Lions, there's still only one Sydney team (which was originally South Melbourne) although they're trying to get another team up and running - West Sydney I think. Footscray still has the bulldogs I believe. Oh golly, now I'm starting to question my own knowledge!

In some ways you wouldn't recognise some of the old teams because they wear different style jerseys when they play 'away' games.

See I can't even get the teams they do have right! What a mess it'd be if they shook them up again!

What is this AFL of which you speak? NRL, love, NRL :)

What a beautiful park! That's ace, having one so close by that you can go visit. (We only have Alpacas nearby, on a farm.) Bison! Highland Coos! Brilliant! And nope, you're not alone on the sheep thing. I think they're adorable.

Heehee, Tamsyn looks quite happy there with her elemaphant.

Typical Queenslander - you and your rugby! Although I do like to see men in tight shorts, the thick necks are a little off-putting ;)

Elemaphant? Who's adorable now? ;) *snigger*

Me! Me! I'm adorable! ;)

*laughs* I do feel the need to say that my interest in NRL was never to perve. They're all big boofheads. :D

Aw, I'm slightly disappointed by that! Though yeah, they are all big boofheads!
