Cain himself had been pacing restlessly back and forth, back and forth. Riff was here, Riff was here! Just the thought of it made him feel elated, made this place less of a dead end than it had looked before... especially with the doctor being here as well.

Jizabel... and Merry. Cain wasn’t very happy to see the one pure, shining light in his life here. But Merry was here, in this strange place that he would’ve entitled Purgatory had it not been so ominously described as a place of purpose. Purpose for what…? Merry had a purpose in a place like this? After everything he’d done to keep her safe… It just wasn’t fair!

His emotions at the moment were tumultuous, a torrent of worry over Merry, his beautiful and innocent little sister, to frustration that even in this place he wasn’t free from the grasp of his father, or at least the remnants of him, but then there was Riff… and it was good to focus on Riff, to have that unfailing support with him… and knowing that he had followed him here, even to a distant place like this
