I really do appreciate that you guys are trying to answer comments. I think that's really great. My main comment is here if you would care to take a look. Specifically my questions are:
- Do you take the full context of fanfic/art into account in your decisions, or will you be relying purely on 'canon' information?
- Can this not apply merely to the removal of the artwork/post in question? Why does the user have to be suspended/deleted/banned for one offense? And why are ALL of the accounts connected to their email address suspended as well?
Yikes... here we go: (sort of feel like i'm in the spot light)
We don't monitor content. when something is reported to us from a fellow lj community member, they submit the info with a url to the specific content that's questionable.
We then suspend the entire user and block their IP address. I just ask that you look at it from a company perspective for a minute. imagine that person who's uploading content that is illegal (graphic visual depiction of a minor (anyone under the age of 18, as defined by Federal and California state law) engaged in sexually explicit conduct). and what if we just removed it but kept his/her journal active.... and he/she did it again. and again. we're then harboring him/her and his/her content.
The law does spell out that we have to not only remove, dispose of as well as report those people. if we don't then we become liable.
we do understand there are going to be those edge cases that a user may want to appeal their suspension and that's why we have an appeal process (that we linked to).
Sorry, guys, but I'm freezing this. My personal journal isn't the proper venue to ask or answer questions about lJ policy. If it keeps happening, I'll freeze all commenting.
I don't know why the appearance of suspended journals was changed. honestly. i will find out tomorrow and i'll email you. or i'll come back here and comment.
we have to address the content that is deemed illegal first and foremost. there are alot of communities on livejournal that are diverse. and while i or you may not personally agree or take part in the communities, they are 'welcome' on livejournal. what's not welcome is illegal content, such as child pornography and that's what we're addressing...

Just trying to reply to comments and help answer questions as much as possible.
I'm here and will be up for a bit longer. I'd love nothing more than for everyone to understand the position.
