Just when I think I've gotten over being furious with the Impossible Son's second grade teacher... something happens that makes me furious all over again!!

*takes slow deep breaths to calm down*

I knew he had lost a lot of instruction time last year, thanks to Oblivious Teacher and the bully incident , but I didn't realize just how much until ( Read more... )

So sorry for you, and your son, I'm glad you are being proactive, a good (or a bad teacher) can really make a difference, so if you get a good one, praise them to the skies!

He's got a good teacher this year, so far, but it just chaps my hide that a bad teacher's influence can be so far-reaching!!

Oh dear Auntie, between the backpack brouhaha and the teacher troubles, maybe you should be homeschooling your kids! But it sounds like the Little Man is working things out, so that's a positive. Have you been finding support among other parents for your book bag complaints?

Well, I'm taking advantage of being out on the field with soccer parents to poll them informally, and so far, they're not real happy about the no-bags policy, mostly because their kids keep losing things, or get back and shoulder aches... *shakes head*

I'm building my case, slowly but surely!!

Yeah, it is pretty mind-boggling, isn't it?

*shakes head*

I'm just glad I've overcome most of my own problems with math, or I'd never be able to help him. I'm still working on learning percentages, which I am so far hopeless at, but if I could master algebra, surely I can master percentages before that the Impossible Son is set to learn them!!

Oh my holy flippin' cow! I want to know how Oblivious Teacher even got a degree! (I mean, they do require teachers in Texas to get a college degree, right? Just askin'.) ;-}

Maybe you should give Oblivious Teacher a math riddle and she'll go berserk trying to solve it.

Yes, they do have to get a degree to teach. And they have to pass a lot of certification in order to teach in primary school, because primary school teachers are "generalists," because they teach all subjects. However... this particular teacher is actually a quite wonderful science teacher (and how the hell she manages that when she's so lousy at math, I'll never know!), and they may have let her slide a bit just because of that fact.

*bangs head into wall*
