First off, let me say that... barium tastes like... thick, gloppy...dirt. Yeah. Thick, gloppy, berry-flavored dirt ( Read more... )

Second, do people really yell at medical staff when facilities are crowded and an emergency case comes in and things get a little backed up?

Yes. Also, not medical, but I can not tell you how many times I had people yell at me in my cashier line for things beyond my control. I think part of it is sick or hurt people and their loved ones can be really upset and irrational, but that only excuses so much.

Oh, boy, do I ever know about the retail end of that! That's what surprised me. I EXPECTED it when I worked retail at a department store, and when I waited tables, but it still surprises me to see it in places like an outpatient radiological lab, where people are polite and professional...

*shakes head*

Guess that's one of the few parts of me that's still innocent!

Oh, people yell at anybody for any reason that doesn't acknowledge that they (the yellers) are more special than anyone else could possibly be. I don't know if you know oncelikeshari. She works in a department store and recently told us about people yelling at her because she was taking too much time helping a deaf couple.

As for the barium--I don't know. However foul it tastes it might be better than my experience of getting it in the other end...

I've worked retail, and I've waited tables, and I do have tales that would make your hair curl. But... I dunno, it just puzzles me to see folks making a fuss when things are running and moving, just... 15 minutes behind, which isn't bad when you consider it!

And yes, I've had barium before, over 18 years ago... and in both ends. No... not fun, not fun at all!!!

I hope that everything is alright with you. And if not that you'll be well soon.

As for the tech's I'm sure that they were just grateful to have someone who didn't bitch about every little thing and expect things done when they wanted them done not when the staff said they would be ready or could help them. While I don't work at a hospital or E.R (I work at Wal-Mart) it's still the same thing there with the interruptions for directions or them complaining that we are too slow when we're going as fast as we can and dealing with people who can't read the bloody 20 items or less sign (ironically don't mind the ones who do have more if they actually ask though). Or just because they have to wait and *gasp* they aren't the center of our universe. Sadly I think that's how most people are today. They think they are the Center of the Universe.

(sorry for the slight rant once I got started I couldn't stop)

Oh, honey! I worked retail and waited tables. I know, I know EXACTLY what you mean!! Like someone buying a sequined shirt before New Years, and returning it five days later, reeking of sweat, alcohol, and with vomit stains on it... and you have to take the return, because they still have the receipt and it's within the time period they have to return it in. Suckage, major suckage. Or the lady who calls the manager on you, because you didn't leap up and trot obediently to her feet when she snapped her fingers, because you were already waiting on someone else, but they were elderly, poor, and she was rich and Very Important. Or the man who really should have known better, but tried to convince me to give him a 20% discount by trying to slip his hand up under my skirt (I was wearing 5 inch heels that day, and I'm sure he still walks with a limp). I won't even go into the hell of waiting tables ( ... )
