I keep meaning to come here and post something, but this is new for me yet. I don't know how to add people, search for people or anything like that. I also loathe that there doesn't seem to be a client that I can install that allows me to type my entry offline and then upload/publish when done

Yes, semagic. It's pretty easy and intuitive to learn, and even autosaves periodically. You can also save to special file names to use later.
