Going deeper into the metaphysics of FFX may not be too bad of an idea... but hey you're speaking to the gal who read the book about the Metaphysics of Star Trek. I love the intricate details that could explain stuff like that. Writing stories that delve into those possibilities is always interesting.
Actually, I was just thinking to myself this morning about my post/comment from last night to you on the metaphysics. From what I *know* about the end of the Resurrection stories you are writing due to that plot bunny angsty you needed to write and have started to delve into with the latest chapters, you'll be getting into the metaphysics anyway... I'm sure people are going to be curious as to the probability and possibilities of it.
His aging, he was keeping his unsent state a secret in the event that he could return to Spira. His quest would go a lot smoother. He wasn't trying to fool Tidus, he was protecting him. Can you imagine the trauma Tidus would have endure had Auron revealed his unsent state? Tidus was oblivious to the whole "sending", "unsent", "spira" thing.
As for the scar over his eye and why he didn't "pyrefly" himself a new eye? I believe he left it there to remind himself of his mistake. He's ashamed of himself, that's why he hides behind that cowl in his later age. He didn't hide behind anything when he was 25. Changes, my dears, changes.
Rin found Auron in the Calm Lands about half way to Bevelle in the Travel Agency. It's mostly speculated that Auron probably passed away from the head injury. Others think that there is a much deeper wound on his chest. It is a possibility, but given the fact that Rin said, "wound" and not "wounds" suggests that Auron only had that head injury.
My idea on his unsent status is similar, in that I believe a sort of inner spiritual energy keeps him around, good and "himself". It is a struggle, but he essentially is able to remain the man he has always been, thus the aging and curative spells. I, like you, have an idea that it is difficult to keep himself together and that he must force it through sheer will, though not precisely in the same way as you propose. Yunalesca, however, is feeding the cycle and, I believe, draws power from the cycle. She only *appears* to be her former self, as you learn when you fight her
( ... )
There is an Agency in the Calm Lands. ._. It never really specified where he was when Rin found him, but it's safe to say that Rin was at his hut for Auron to stay the night.
I don't think he has any other scarring. Rin specifically said; Head injury. "I was surprised to see you gone the next morning with that wound. An oridinary man wouldn't have been able to walk."
He said "wound" not "wounds". If there had been two, he surely would have made note of them. Yunalesca only struck him once. Right in front of his face.
I find that... most Auro fans like to fantasize about other scars. That's why Jecht is so popular. He's scarred, wild, and rough. Auron lacks those "fangirlish-loved" qualities. Which is why it's so speculated. I would love for him to have more scars, but I would also love to simply be wrong and accept the truth.
Yeah, I assumed the Calm Lands. As for his wound, I imagined it as a long continuous thing, from one hit from Yunalesca, though it's nothing I've explored in my fanfic yet. I suppose the only reason I assumed this is because the scar on his face didn't look fatal, it looked almost cosmetic. I assumed there was probably an ugly-mess elsewhere. I can see it either way, though, being as head-wounds are among the most likely to be seriously traumatic.
