Snowflake Challenge Day 6

Jan 14, 2017 12:45

I'm so behind. I'm getting there. I worked 70+ hours last week and I'm not even sure where my brain is right now, although I did manage a word war last week so that helped; I haven't written since before the holidays, yikes.

not sure I'm really qualified to judge (but willing) verushka70 January 14 2017, 22:03:56 UTC
Well, this
Someone to give me some honest feedback on a noncon scene I'm going back and forth over. It involves Fraser. Half the time I'm like, no, it's fine, it's not OTT, and the other half I'm like, OMG, no, what am I thinking? I'm such a dim bulb that when I first wrote it, I didn't think of it being, you know, outside the norm, but when someone read it over for me, they were very upset by it. :/really piqued my interest d/t I am not squicked by noncon/darker stuff, and having the words "Fraser" and "noncon" in the same sentence just elicits a bunch of things, but mostly burning curiosity. I don't write or blog much anymore (RL & RSIs, ongoing, worsened x 1+ year), but I'd happily read it over. (I did beta & also pinch hit for for dSSS, so I'm not too rusty; I think I can be objective wrt canon/characterization, though I can get gushy about darker dS stuff because I usually like it...) verushka70 AT gmail DOT com if you want ( ... )

Oh, wow, that's so nice of you! And no, I'm not worried about squicking you; you gave me some of my first, and best, exposure to the "darker" stuff ( ... )

Wow, now that you mention it, that's true -- we didn't warn for much back then, besides death or hard BDSM... With the earliest archive, Hexwood, I don't remember if there was a way to warn for anything at all. If you did warn, iirc, it was more a courtesy or to categorize stories. (I wonder if that's why you can choose not to use any archive warnings at all when posting stories on AO3: old school fen saying "well, *we* never used to warn for stuff..." ?)

I don't remember when I first heard the terms noncon or dubcon, but I know I'd already been writing a while. Sounds weird to say it, but -- despite all the porny, angsty, &/or dubcon fic coming out of dS and HCL fandom back then -- we were quite naïve in other ways, just sort of cherrily, innocently writing dubcon and noncon with no warnings...! (Plus with HCL, deathfic and noncon was *canonical* -- why would we bother, lol?)

Well, jeez, I'd love to have your opinion if you have the time! I'm so leery of imposing on people cause I know what RL is like for all of us, it sounds like. Is the email I have for you okay?

Well, yeah, RL does feel like it's on overload, but it's not "imposing on people" if you put out a call and those who are willing and able respond. I'm willing and able to make this a priority, so if you send me that scene to my usual email I'll read it today (and if it's part of a long!fic and you'd like me to beta it we can discuss time-frame for reading).
