2 month vaccinations-what to expect

Oct 29, 2007 11:04

My daughter is having her 2 month appointment tomorrow. What should I expect for the vaccinations, her reactions/my reactions? I read that breast feeding while getting the vaccinations can help her. Also, did you bring anyone with you? My husband is working unfortunately but did it help (you) to have someone with you?

Thanks for any advice.

well baby check-up, vaccinations

AJ got 4 shots and only cried on the last shot. I think he was tired of the poking by then! He slept as soon as we got home but when he woke up, he was very sore and cranky. He cried/screamed no matter how we held him. We gave him a tylenol and he calmed right down, but was still cranky. he just wanted to be held, so we did.

The next day was much better, back to his old self.

I brought my son's father with me, I didn't want to be alone when he got his shots, It did help having someone there with me. The nurse wouldn't let me hold him and while he was laying there I rubbed his head and his father had him hold onto his fingers. He started screaming after the first shot and when they were done I picked him up and he stopped crying.
I've heard nursing helps a lot too, hopefully they'll let you do that. :)

Aye, it was particularly bad for Dahlia. They put this lidocaine cream on her under a band-aid first to help numb it. Bad idea! Can you imagine ripping a fresh band-aid off sensitive baby skin?! Ugh!

So the doctor ripped the first band-aid off and the screaming began. First needle- The shrieking began. Same thing with the next shot. She was to receive an oral vaccination as well, but I put that on hold to nurse her. I couldn't take watching her cry! I just scooped her up and put her on the boob and she calmed down right away. The oral vaccination just sort of confused her, no tears. She was a little fussy the whole way home (two blocks) but completely zonked out and stayed asleep for 5 hours once in her bouncer seat.

Her father was at class, so my mother came with me. It really helps to have someone there. The baby was screeching, but my mother was comforting ME instead. I think I took it worse than Dahlia did, haha.

Good luck and don't forget the baby Tylenol!

I went with my sister in law and I wouldn't suggest going alone, if you could find a friend or family member to go, you should do that because it's a bit traumatizing.
Logan had just a small cry for the first one, and then screamed his little head off for the last 3, he wouldn't nurse right away - he was too distraught. When he calmed down, he just slept for most of the day.

addison had 4 shots. took literally 10 seconds to do them all. it WAS QUICK. needless to say, it took her less than a second to SCREAM. she stopped crying within 5minutes. she was fine the next few hours. i gave her tylenol (doctor approved) every 4 hours for 3 doses. she was fine the next day =).

good luck mama! i went alone. i was going to breast feed her after it was done, but i was more worried about comforting her by holding her. i felt awful.
