Upon reflection, Edric realized it had been totally ridiculous of him to think that he had a moment to himself to think. The way his life had been going lately-- honestly, who's apartment just explodes like that? How often does that happen? -- he should have figured something was up the moment he sat down. But he didn't, and a sigh of relief had escaped his lips as he sunk into his sturdy old grandfather's chair in the Ramon study. But the sigh hadn't got far before Edric's arm began to sear; it turned around to jump back down his throat and choke him in his surprise and pain. Edric grabbed his twitching arm with his other hand, squeezing as if that would cast it away. But he knew better.

His appearance before Voldemort was somewhat delayed, but Edric felt it better to appear late and presentable than timely and disheveled. "My Lord," he recognized, bowing his head just slightly and keeping his eyes to the ground, his hands clasped behind his back. "It is a pleasure to finally be back in your presence."

"Edric," Voldemort greeted in a voice that was almost a purr. "It is good to see you again. Have you been... enjoying your freedom?"

His fingers tickled along the wood of his wand, as if waiting on the man's response to decide whether or not to take it up and point it in his direction. It had been a while since the end of Nott's incarceration - surely he had something to show for his free time.

Though he almost hoped the answer would be in the negative - it had been far too long since he had crucioed somebody.

Edric put his shoulders back and his head up again, but kept his eyes on His feet, knowing full well that he had little to report that was at all pleasing. But lies did not come so easily to him. "The only joy I've been able to take from it has been knowing that I could come to your side at any moment, Lord. I am starting to feel my age, and I am starting to question my use to you." Edric pursed his lips, preparing for the worst. "I have acted irrationally and I have made mistakes, but I do beg of you to set me once again on a proper path."

Voldemort's grip tightened on his wand. For a moment, he wondered if Nott did indeed have a death wish, as the man's words were making him long to cast his beloved avada kedavra.

"You question your use to me?" he asked facetiously, rising from his seat and stepping over to the man. "What a wonderful coincidence - so do I."

He used his wand to tilt the man's head up for a better look into his eyes. "If you are of no use to me, then what shall I do with you? Perhaps you would look nice stuffed and mounted on my wall as a conversation piece." Feels his age?! Some of us have died and returned, and he is feeling his age?

"But perhaps you are right, and a proper path may be regained... tell me, Nott, have you been in contact with your son?"
