Aurora was nervous. She was happy to admit that to herself, though less inclined to show it to Severus, and if she didn't strike up her confidence before she reached that door, she was sure to expose it within seconds. It had been some time since she had seen Severus alone, and she had been putting off coming to see him for days, unsure of how things would change with him here, actually within reach. And with so much more at stake.

As she approached the door to his office, she took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment before knocking, almost timidly, on the heavy oak.

Severus' lip curled and he resisted the urge to throw his quill at the door in an effort to discourage the entry of whoever had decided to grace him with their presence. A little unsubtle, perhaps; maybe some form of unattractive hex would discourage people from haunting his door with yet more work that could be handled themselves if they had brains enough to take initiative.

"Enter," he said finally, teeth gritted. He could not help but wonder whether these people had the faintest idea how many other things he, too, would prefer to be doing at this moment. He knew the majority of his staff would prefer to be elsewhere at the moment, and were only here for the students. How he would laugh at the expression on their faces if they ever discovered he was here for exactly that reason himself.

Aurora heard the bite in his voice (always a bad sign), but pushed open the door and walked in anyway, letting it fall gently shut behind her. Severus was sitting at his desk, piles of paperwork covering it's gleaming wood surface, and she realized she had possibly picked a horrible time to drop in. But it was a little late to go back now...

"Good evening, Severus."

Severus relaxed, only the smallest of amounts, when he realised that at least he wasn't required to spend the next goodness knows how long speaking to a complete imbecile.

"Sit," he said, waiving her towards the chair on the other side of his desk as he finished marking off the rest of his paperwork. It occurred to him that he might very well have come across as abrupt, which he knew she didn't deserve, but he was so very frustrated with everything that it was near-impossible to moderate himself. "What may I do for you?"
