Kingsley stared down at the black ink that stained the parchment and dripped off the end of his quill.  His report.  He took a deep breath and held it as long as he could.  Slowly he released it.  He dipped ( Read more... )

"You'll feel better if you just punch a hole in the wall."

Duncan stood at the entrance to Kingsley's cubicle, cigarette dangling between his lips, hands stuffed in the pockets of his robe. He was taken a long (hours) break from the endless amount of paperwork that seemed to make up his job now. No one would particularly notice and if they did, he didn't particularly care.

"You know you want to. It's written all over that calm facade of yours."

"Damn. Am I that obvious?" Kingsley swiveled his chair to face Duncan, putting down the fresh quill with something like relief. He rolled his shoulders. "I'd love to, but can't. They'll deduct the 'damages' from my pay. Never mind a quick repair charm will fix it right up, management still gets all bent out of shape."

He pushed his chair back, making room in the cubical for Duncan.

"Aye, well, management's doing bugger else lately." Duncan stepped into the cubicle, withdrew his wand from his pocket and tapped it against one of the walls, casting a quick silencing charm.

There was something worth talking about finally. Something they could do.

"Delacour's missing." He shifted his attention back to Kingsley. "Bill Weasley's wife, he's the bloke who was mangled by Greyback at the Hogwarts' battle last year. We could say Death Eater activity, but Agatha thinks it's MLE. I got there at the very end, didn't have an opportunity to see any of them."

He glanced over Kingsley's desk, searching for a suitable ash receptacle. A mug with what appeared to be cold coffee proved to be the best choice.

The Order needed a better, faster means of communication and they needed it now. At least he didn't have to fake his surprise. He bit off a curse. At least this was something concrete, something that could implicate the MLE. But damn it, Bill and the Weasley's didn't deserve this.

"Did she get a good look at any of them? Enough to ID one of them?"
