Narcissa was rather tired that morning. Naturally it was justified. Being woken at 2 in the morning to care for one's injured sister would have that effect, but she still got up at her regular time to breakfast with Lucius. After being separated from him for so long, she wasn't about to let a little thing like weariness cause her to miss out on time with him.
At Lucius's request, she set her tea cup down, took the paper and quickly skimmed over the front page.
"Well, it's a bit heavy handed." She passed the Prophet back to him. "But it leaves us in a better position."
He nodded, sipping at his tea. "In some ways, yes. But the heavy-handedness itself is not a particularly wise thing. It will cause people who are normally apathetic to sit up and take notice. That may make matters a bit... messier."
He shrugged. "Then again, Moody might very well have caused complications of his own." His eyes narrowed. "What I should like to know is who the devil is responsible for it. And for Scrimgeour. I don't much care for being uninformed, especially about matters of such importance." He looked at her, his raised eyebrow asking her opinion.
"Well." Narcissa stirred her tea with a small silver spoon, the ghost of a smile flitting across her face. "Bella told me Thicknesse was in our pocket. I had no idea how quickly things would fall into place from there, but I can't say I'm unhappy about the news either."
She tapped the spoon lightly against the side of the cup, set it down on the saucer. "And as for Moody," she raised the cup to her lips. "Why, Bella was the one who killed him. Just last night."
Lucius nodded slowly, pondering the significance of this latest information. Of course it would have been Bellatrix, he thought. How could it have been anyone else? No other Death Eater would have had the skill to stand against him - or would have dared to face him alone. But it would not have been easy, no. So perhaps she will be less of a factor for a short while. This may prove useful...
He smiled. "I can't say I'm surprised. Was she responsible for Scrimgeour as well?"
