It was the moment for which Bellatrix felt she had been waiting ages. The Mark throbbed and ached, the snake crawling under her skin. She never wanted it to end. The pain was so unique, so exquisite. Bellatrix Lestrange knew pain; she fancied herself quite the expert in fact. She knew pain, and there was no pain like that caused by her Lord and Master. He alone was pain and perfection.

A black mist signaled her arrival into the Dark Lord's presence. The substance took corporeal form to reveal the woman clad in a set of Death Eaters' robes she had received since her escape from Azkaban. Their costumes seemed to change so frequently. The mask charmed before her face was thin and gaunt and bore the image of a ghoulish grin, a cackling skeleton.

Her eyes found Him in no more than a second, and Bellatrix, in her ever-present zeal, was on her hands and knees.

"Master," her voice was breathy and full of excitement.

"Ah, Bellatrix. Welcome," he said, his voice barely above a hiss. He motioned with his finger and Nagini slithered from his side and approached Bellatrix, sidling up to her and wrapping around her feet as if in greeting.

"I do hope you are doing better after the... unfortunate demise of your husband. Your Master needs you at his side. We still have much work to do."

"Yes, my Lord. Rodolphus is dead, but You are here now. I have all I need," she said, her voice still an excited whisper.

Her head dropped forward, and dark eyes looked to the ground. She could see Nagini in her peripheral vision, and her heart rate increased. This was where she belonged. How she had yearned for her Lord -- her Savior.

"I am ready, Master."

Burning with the intensity that Rabastan had longed for, his arm felt more powerful than he had in days. He looked down at his arm, the Mark, and smiled with pride and excitement.

He knew he was a true Death Eater when the pain from the Mark excited him.

Rabastan arrived in a bow, his right knee up as his head tucked towards the ground.

"Hello, My Lord..." He said, eyes studying the ground.

Voldemort nodded, pleased with the deference shown to him by the other Lestrange.

"Welcome back, Rabastan," he greeted, his voice a mix of warmth and dominance. "I look forward to hearing about what you have been up to since your release. I certainly hope it has been in my interests."

"Thank you, My Lord...." Rabastan's voice showed great reverence and respect. After the days he'd been having the last thing he had wanted was a curse from The Dark Lord.

"I am anxious to serve you, My Lord..." Feeling a jump in his heart-rate and an increase of perspiration on is palms, Rabasten clenched his fists tight together. "I think of no one else, Master." He confessed.

"With Williamson dead, I imagine any further pursuits at Azkaban would come easier for you, My Lord." Rabastan turned attention to Garland Williamson's death in hopes that the Dark Lord would be a bit relaxed than normal.

Draco felt the Mark burn and had a momentary twinge of panic. He wasn't ready for this. Not by a long stretch of the imagination. Even if it was what he'd been preparing for.

He quickly cloaked himself in his Death Eater robes and pressed his mask to his face and hurriedly Apparated to his Master's side.

He couldn't help but feel a slight elation that he managed the Apparation, always having to fly before, even as he fell to his knees before Lord Voldemort.

"Master," he murmured, looking carefully down.

Voldemort smiled terribly at the young one's arrival. "Welcome, young Malfoy," he said, his voice a mix of faux respect and dominance. "I do look forward to hearing about how your training has been going thus far. Perhaps it is time we send you on another mission. Go join your aunt until I call for you," he commanded.

Bellatrix, who was hanging on every word that escaped her Lord's mouth, could not help but feel elated. The experience was comparable to the high felt when a disgusting half-blood begged for his life at her feet. Her Dark Lord and Majesty had commanded Draco by her side, not Lucius'. Granted Lucius was not present, but Bellatrix paid that no mind. The Dark Lord was entrusting her nephew to her again. She would watch him until the Lord bade him come.

The line of her shoulders shook with excitement, and Bellatrix almost lost her balance. She would have crashed face-first into the floor. Instead, she could feel Nagini steady her. Such a beautiful creature...

Severus, bleary eyed but satisfied with his day's work, looked up to the clock on his office wall. Nearly midnight, and time for bed. He pushed back his chair and made to stand, but slumped back into it with a snarl as the nerves in his arm burned with a searing heat. He unbuttoned his cuff hurriedly and pulled up his shirt sleeve, though he knew what he would see: the Dark Mark, a fiery, swollen red that almost seemed to writhe upon his skin as it languished in the torture of Severus' body.

He stood hurriedly and went to the wardrobe, donning the hooded cloak and skull mask that was customary, before Apparating, concentrating wholly on his Master and the pain in his arm, knowing that that would lead him safely to the Dark Lord's side.

Appearing in the unknown room, Severus dropped immediately to his knees, ignoring the few figures gathered around him, and crawled to his Master's chair, dropping a kiss to the hemn of his robe.

Voldemort smiled at the display before him. It always amused him to see powerful witches and wizards prostrate before him, their lives and powers forever linked with his. It was almost as good as the thrill of the kill.

He kept from sighing, though it lied within him. It had been so long since he had killed. Having so many loyal followers to do his bidding was an advantage, a luxury... but it also meant he was less involved in the personal touches, the actual acts that sent a thrill through whatever blood remained in his veins.

"How is your work going?" he asked of Snape. "I would like an update."

"It progresses slowly but surely, my Lord," Severus said, keeping his eyes lowered to the floor beneath the pale mask. "From what I have observed, my original theories on the Physics of Dementor's Kiss appear to be more or less accurate, and I now observe to see how the modifier of magical theory intergrates to complete the process. Magic, as you know, my Lord, is generally a fairly unpredictable variable. I expect to be able to issue a full report on this matter within the next week or so.

"As to the other aspect, the more biological research into Dementors, my progress is slower. I hope that more firm findings on the first stage will trigger a breakthrough."

Ailith had been lounging in her bedroom when delicious pain enveloped her as her Mark became active. She'd been bored lately, having not done much after the killing of Dawlish.

She quickly summoned her robes and masked, dressing herself before apparating to Her Lord's side.

She knelt before him, "Master, you called?"

"Yes, Ailith," he said, looking down at the woman kneeling before him. "It has been far too long since I have... reunited with my Death Eaters."

He swept his robes aside and stepped in her direction. "Now, I would like to be acquainted with your efforts of late. I certainly hope they have been more successful than your attempt at gaining information from the Weasley boy."

She quashed the feelings of bile rising in her throat at the mention of her mishap.

She bowed her head lower, "Yes, Master, I have been more successful," she said reverently before taking a chance to look up at him, "I was able to get close enough to the Auror Dawlish after several weeks, and last month I and the young Greengrass were the ones to kill him."
