Ailith had been spending most of the day, trying to figure out a way to explain her mistake to Her Lord. Nothing had come to her yet. She hissed slightly as she felt her mark suddenly burn. And with a quick summoning charm, she got her robes and changed into them hurriedly. She was just drawing the mask over her face as she apparated to where Her Lord stood in front of her.

She bowed low before him, her head touching the edge of his robes.

"My Lord, you called?"

"Rise," the Dark Lord allowed, if not graciously, with no real trace of anger in his cold voice either. He did not light the fire- it was not very cold in the room- and the moon had set.

He had long since developed the ability to see far better in the dark than mere men, and now, with the weak electric-light beams filtering through the distance and into the room, he could see clearly where Ailith would only see outlines, shadows and patches of white and grey.

"You know what I have called you here for."

She pushed herself back slightly and assumed the usual submissive pose she took when she was around him. Her hair that had fallen loose from her hood, fell forward, obscuring her expression. She attempted not to panic at her Lord's words.

"Yes, Master, I know that everything did not go as planned..." she trailed off, suppressing a wince. A success her night was not. "But I did get some information from the Weasley boy."

Did not go as planned? he wanted to ask, but said instead, "Yes? What have you to tell me?"

There would be time later to understand what she meant . . . Did not go as planned . . . He neary snorted in disdain. Had there ever been a plan, with Ailith? Her usefulness was a most irritating kind of usefulness- supremely undependable. And yet, it was she who had killed Gawain Robards. The Dark Lord was not quite prepared to dispose of her yet. Without another chance.

And if she had information about Scrimgeour as well . . . He was willing to let her live.
