The tingle raised to a definite burn as Severus rifled through the wardrobe, snatching a long, thick black cloak and throwing it over his shoulders. The white skull mask was already in his hands, and slid easily over his face, sticking without any visible source of grip and melding to his face like a second skin. He raised the hood, and started towards the door.
Before he could, however, he caught sight of himself in the wardrobe mirror. All traces of sallow skin covered, leaving only black eyes to stare, almost vacant, from beneath the pallid mask. He took a step closer and touched the face of his reflection. Were these, he wondered, the eyes that Aurora had fallen in love with? Those now staring sharply, blankly, without soul from behind a thing of evil.
Close it out. Close it all outAs he lifted his mother's wand, and swished and turned into Apparition, Severus' mind was almost entirely blank, focused only on pleasing his Lord, on fulfilling whatever expectations would be made of him this morning

"Rise, Severus," Voldemort greeted him, and nodded toward the dementors ranged among the trees. "I have a new task for you."
A slow breeze laced across the landscape, but did not stir the cloaks of the erstwhile guards of Azkaban. "You have pleased me greatly, these past few months. Severus rose gracefully, glancing over his shoulder as he did so. The black hooded figures were not those of other Death Eaters, as he had at first thought, but the floating figures of Dementors. Twenty, at least, and more still emerging from the dark depths of the woods. Severus swallowed painfully, feeling the draw of the Dementors' grips on his soul. They seemed to tease at his thoughts, his memories, like a skilled Legilimens, and the recollection of that night on the tower threatened to rise to the surface. With a wrench, he shoved it back down, turning to the Dark Lord as He continued

Lord Voldemort inhaled deeply, his chin raised and eyes half-shut in satisfaction. "They will spill onto the grounds of Hogwarts amidst fog and mist, and bring with them the smell of Darkness."
The dementors' cloaks rustled once as they settled in a neat ring, not close enough to affect Severus's mind too baldly, but enough that he would not forget they surrounded him. The sound was startling after their distinctive silence. The Dark Lord opened his eyes and surveyed them once, then raised his hand and flicked his fingers, Go.
They retreated, leaving the atmosphere cold but somehow cleaner.
"I wish you to manage this place for me, Severus. There is much I must attend to over the next few days, and our indefinite allies here must be contained till they are led to their destination." He paused, debating whether to reveal his other plans to Severus, but there was never really a doubt- the Dark Lord guarded his strategies jealously
