soohyun’s private moment is interrupted.

note: don't mind me, just trying to get ahold of the feel of them again♥!

Soohyun sits outside the apartment complex. The entrance way is deserted, and at three in the morning it very well better be. He fishes a cigarette out of his pocket and then looks for a lighter. He shouldn’t do this, he thinks, as his hands shake. He shouldn’t want it, the sting of nicotine through his lungs, the taste of awful ash on his tongue. He’s been in U-Kiss from day one, he’s been from company to company, drifting around, making friends, losing them, forgetting faces, meeting new ones.

Why he stayed with NHM he has no idea. Why he finally broke through and made a name for himself, even if it’s a small one, he has no idea. Why he’s the leader, he can only guess at, but he’s never envied the position from anyone before. He’s good at it, all things considered. He knows people, he knows how to be concerned and kind and talkative and always, always ask people how things are going. He doesn’t steal food unless they’re not supposed to be eating it, and he doesn’t sleep until the others have slept.

But at the end of the night, when the others are sleeping and Korea has settled into a slow hum of night activity and no one is paying any attention to them, he sneaks downstairs and has a cigarette. It’s for his sanity, he reasons to himself. Because U-kiss is always one step away from disbanding and none of them really know what’s going to happen to them in the future and for all that it terrifies him, he knows he needs that to get better.

So perhaps it’s guilt,he doesn’t know. But his lighter is gone and he needs one, and he sighs, heavily, and takes the cigarette out of his mouth. He’ll have to go without tonight, and that shouldn’t bother him as much as it does. He looks up when the door opens and hides the cigarette in his fist, and blanches when he sees Kiseob, in an oversized sweatshirt that he’s sure is his and rabbit pajama bottoms. Kiseob sits down next to him and his heart starts to pound in his chest because being caught would be the death of him.

Kiseob smiles at him from behind his thick glasses and fumbles around in the pocket of the sweater. He withdraws something thin and metal, and blue and holds it up. A lighter. Not his lighter but it is a lighter and Soohyun kind of blinks at him, feeling stupid.

There’s a Superman symbol on the cover, and Kiseob grins at him, flicking it open. “Here,” he reaches across and pulls at Soohyun’s wrist until he lifts his cigarette and lights it. The lighter snaps closed and Kiseob passes it into his other hand, closing the fist over cold metal. He drops his head down into the crook of his shoulder.

“Like it?”

Soohyun stares down at it, tracing the S with his thumb. “It doesn’t really fit,” he frowns and turns his head away from Kiseob to take a drag from the cigarette.

“Even Superman has faults, he’s only human,” Kiseob tilts his head to look up at him. “Or, you know.”

Soohyun grins, “what are you trying to say?” He shoves at him and Kiseob bobs backwards before reattaching himself to Soohyun’s shoulder.

“I’m saying that you don’t have to be perfect, of course,” he grins, and closes his eyes. “But you’re still a hero, okay?”

Soohyun laughs and flicks ash behind them into the bush. “Alright,” he loops his arm around Kiseob’s shoulders.
