And then I staked Mary Cullen in her putrid heart. You know how you get all mouth-frothy about sexual shaming? I get that way when girls do things they know will hurt other girls

I think the difference in tone/subject/opinion of reviewers between the LJ post (where I review) and FFN post (where I learn of the update in the first place) would make for an interesting sociological study.

There's always been a difference in how FFn takes things as compared to LJ, but it's been particularly noticeable for this fic. Part of it is simply that different corners of fandom develop their own cultures; if I were posting this on JBnP or Twilighted, there would almost certainly be a third set of reactions. We all live in Texas, but Houston is way different than Austin, you know? But on the other hand... yeah, it's really interesting.
And then I staked Mary Cullen in her putrid heart. You know how you get all mouth-frothy about sexual shaming? I get that way when girls do things they know will hurt other girls. / It's different than when it happened with Edward and Jacob. It really isn't, but because it's two girls it feels different. I think there's something about this genderswap that makes people identify with the story on a more personal level, and therefore take it more personally. Though, it might not be the genderswap itself; it might be the writing. Present tense stream of consciousness is quite a bit rougher than past tense traditional writing (uh, as much as one can say it is, given Meyer's fail). But anyway, yeah, even though this is more or less the exact same thing Edward did, it feels different.
Because all Lucas seems to care about is everyone's mental health. Whereas Bella just wants people to not be mad at her anymore. There's a helluva difference. As I discussed above -- and keep coming back to, because the more I look at it the more I realize it

I seriously feel like there should be a 'dun dun dun' right after that. I need an animated GIF to that effect.
I have to say that since the beginning I've been beyond terrified that this genderswap version of Twilight will be exactly like Twilight, in that every major scene is parallel to the actual books. I really want you to go off script with this to make it a HEA for our Jacob/Ruth (Jacuth? Rucob?) and not keep to the original storyline. ...we'll get there.
You've done a wonderful job of keeping all the major plot points and turning them around to better fit their genders *bows down to you*
*sigh* I think my fear may have been confirmed in some way...though I'm still going to hold on to hope for the future of Rucob. (Or Jacuth. They're both fun to say.)
Also, *giggles*
Now I shall sit back, bite my nails to expel all nervous energy and wait.

1) Screw Mary. I'm not a big fan of her character, she's actually creepier than Edward was/is. Manipulative bitch. UGH! 2) Besides the above comment, I have nothing else to say (no comment on gender bias or observation on today's views on teenage love) besides that you are an awesome story teller. I am kind of in love with you. :-D 3)My poor Ruth. I feel so bad for her because I know what's going to happen next and who Luke is going to choose. (DAMN YOU TWILIGHT CANON!) My heart is breaking all over again for Jacob and is shattering for Ruth. SMEYER WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING AND HAVE BELLA STAY WITH EDWARD!!! :-( :-( 3.5)I just wanted to comment on the Embry/Ruth faction growing on your comment board, ew! (Only because in my head canon, Embry is Billy Black's biological son. Embry's her brother! )

SMEYER WHY DO YOU HAVE TO RUIN EVERYTHING AND HAVE BELLA STAY WITH EDWARD!!! :-( :-( The question of why Stephenie Meyer is the way it is has been plaguing me for three and a half years, and I'm not sure I'm any closer to figuring it out today than I was back then.
These are actually one of my favorite scenes in the series. After seeing the gender swap, I can honestly say that I like Edward better. I'm generally more sympathetic with women, but with the "you knew she was listening" convo, I seriously didn't like Mary then. For some reason, I wasn't as affected when Edward did it. I guess that comes with the notion that when girls become jealous, it looks really bad, but when its with the guys, its protective and, dare I say it, sexy.
Maaan, this fic makes me think of MY biased views!
This chappie is just hot! A super awesome alternative to the slightly-awake-Bella version. Cool, cool, cool.
Okay. The Second Break Up?!?! Nooooo! Oh, canon...

Maaan, this fic makes me think of MY biased views! Well, that's the point of the fic ;) Unfortunately, in canon, Edward's even more extreme and vicious... and yet it feels different coming from a girl (as pretty much every comment has said). I admit that I *did* want to truss Edward up and beat him senseless during this scene in canon, but my reaction was *different* to my one to Mary. (About the same strength, but with a different feel.)
As a side note, this has been one of those fics that I've felt less as though I were writing and more as though I was transcribing. Just been sort of releasing the characters into the wild, then writing down what they do.
