we are a nation of retards

This whole "lipstick on a pig" shit is seriously pissing me off. Every time it came up on the radio news on the drive home, I was compelled to yell "STUPID" over and over until the story ended. For fuck's sake, we can't all be this dumb, can we? This is not news; why it's being reported as such makes me want to smash things ( Read more... )

The same thing has been driving me nuts, too.

I am genuinely worried about the outcome of this election. I think that those who play dirty and spin everything to their advantage will sway more people.

And I am beginning to doubt if our country is ready for change, or a black man in charge. I know I am ready, but the more I read or watch on the news the more depressed I get about how small-minded so many people in our country are.

I made a donation to Obama last night, which won't change anything, but it made me slightly less depressed.

What's infuriating to me is that all the spin and dirty tricks seem to WORK. Maybe it's just people hearing what they want to hear and nothing else, or people are just naturally attracted to conflict and trivial matters. I guess the small stuff is easier to grasp and deal with than the bigger (and scarier) picture.

And there's definitely an undercurrent of race that still flows through this country... to me accusing Obama of being a Muslim just seems like some sort of safe code for "he's black!". And even if he was Muslim, why is that ok to hate on? The answer is it's ok because in the current climate, hating on Muslims is an acceptable, almost patriotic thing to do. We'll probably look back on this era with the same chagrin we now feel when seeing caricatures of Japanese people in WWII propaganda.

I think you are right on target with the Muslim/black thing.

My mom is so idealistic and has been saying all along that Obama will win. Well, she's been watching all these interviews with people in the midwest and plains and she's now aware that there's no such thing as a sure win and that A LOT of people in this country are not particularly forward-thinking. She's pretty bummed these days, just like me.

I remember seeing George W. Bush for the first time prior to the 2000 election. I thought to myself, 'there's NO WAY this guy could win' because, come on, he's W. But yeah, he got two terms. Some people still love him. It boggles my mind.

Blind loyalty to a party scares me. I have always voted democrat, but I don't think my loyalty or support is blind. If the person nominated did not mesh with the issues I find important, I would not vote for that person.

I often wonder if my support for Democratic candidates is just blind loyalty, but to be honest I was kinda agreeing with Sara when she mentioned that if Obama lost, McCain wouldn't be so bad.

With his choice of Palin, though, I've done a 180. I think she'd be a disaster, and it makes me question the man's decision-making skills. And frankly, the way he's been running his campaign recently has turned me against McCain completely. I've never liked the whole "win at any cost, even if it means stuffing my soul in the toilet" thing.

Speaking of blind loyalty, I saw a clip of Sean Hannity yelling at an economist that the economy was just awesome. Either Hannity hasn't gone shopping in the past two years, or he's completely blind. He'd be a total failure on "The Price Is Right".
