For those of you who knew Diana Battis, aka sjersey_tomato and/or read her X-Files fic back in the day, I am sad to pass along this post that appeared at the Haven and on e-muse on Friday:

Im so sorry to hear of your loss. Yanno its one of my biggest fears for an onlline friend to pass away because if they are not very active you may not know for a while. And people can say what they want about online friendships but a lot are REAL. In fact Im probably typing this tonight because of one of them. I was in a very bad place last night and he was a much needed ear who knew I needed someone right then.

Im sorry again and I can see she was important to you.

Thanks for the kind thoughts. I'm sorry to hear you're having a rough time, but very glad that you had someone to lean on. And yes, definitely, online friends are sometimes the ones who can come through when you need someone most.

The possibility that something like this might happen had been on my mind for awhile wrt this particular friend, as she'd been suffering from various chronic health problems as long as I'd known her. Fortunately, she was surrounded by family; they knew she had online friends, but didn't remember our names or know how to get in touch with any of us. Something to think about...

Exactly.

When I was talking to my online friend the other night, I was like "Welcome to my life. My so-called "best friend" who lives literally 10 minutes away has the maturity of an autistic amoeba and dumped a 6 year friendship without a SINGLE fight for one hot, stressful bad day and a snotty one liner. You get to pick up the pieces - you're happy to be here for me - and I've never even seen your face"

In the event something happened to me, there's a document with all my passwords on it in a safe deposit box, and I would at least hope someone would post and let everyone know.

I'm so sorry to hear this. I recommended a lot of her stories on How Will It End back in the day. She was a very talented and beloved writer. She will be missed.

I'm so sorry to hear about this. I read many of her stories with pleasure, and corresponded with her briefly. How very sad for all of you that loved her.
