Methos surprised me more than a little bit as I wrote this -- I wasn't expecting him to be quite so dark. The bit you mentioned pretty much wrote itself, and startled me when I re-read it.

That's an interesting way of looking at Methos. I agree with you about the limitlessness of his darkness -- I don't think there's anything he wouldn't do, under the right circumstances -- but at the same time, there's a very solid core to him that is very much connected to the people and places around him.
Have you ever read Sylvia Volk's fic? I cannot recommend her enough. Historical detail, and one of the most deeply fascinating takes on Methos that I've ever encountered. Pen and Sword is one of the stand-outs -- though they're all unbelievably good -- if you haven't read it, you should.
