Chapter Nine: The Wounded Air Roared In

“...walking in the dark and the wind over broken earth
halfmade foundations and unfinished
drainage trenches and the spaced out
circles of glaring light
marking streets that were to be
walking with you but so far from you....”

I love the way your steely alternately Remus bullies Sirius into admitting he wasn't at fault for the deaths, and comforts him then goes straight back to bullying him to make sure the message is received, all the while conveying how much he cares for Sirius. That's quite a trick. I love the way Sirius responds to Remus, and how he finally feels as though he could be comforted, but has to fight it one last bit. Love that Sirius and Phineas try to out-arrogant each other, lol, and Phineas approves.

Sorry about the lateness of this review. I've been in the hospital.

Go ahead and friend me!

I wasn't entirely sure about the paintings either, but Phineas seems very self-aware and able to move about in OotP, so i went with it.

More coming, I promise -- I expect updates w.in the next week or so.

This chapter was SO SATISFYING. SO many lines that Sirius needed to hear! The living with consequences? And arrogant idiot? YES SO TRUE! I wanted to c/p that whole scene to this friend of mine, who really does have life/death issues to deal with fairly often, but so many times it's like "My GOD, get over yourself, your attitude is only making a horrible situation worse!" Just, absolutly perfect way to show Sirius-brand grief.

It is just so strange to be able to read these characters in this context - they don’t have to face everything alone, they don’t lose all those years, there is, relatively, so much hope for them in this story. I feel like I’ve spent the past two years reading about two completely different people.

LOL @ “Your shirt will never be the same again.”

He wants someone to fix everything, and no one will ever fix anything for him ever again.

I loved this line - such a beautiful sentence, such an impossibly cruel thing to have to realize.

The look on his face is a warning, but Sirius has never been any good at being warned.

Again, a wonderful line.

“If you feel so fucking guilty, Sirius, try living with the consequences.”

And you just keep them coming.

My nails are torn to shreds.
