Shoulders hunched, his entire body curved inward and over the drink he's been nursing for the past several hours, Joe looks like any other drunk in the bar, his eyes half-closed and his body mostly relaxed. To most people, he probably looks like he's just preparing to hang out there all night, drink himself stupid. What he's actually doing is ( Read more... )

Logan walked right into Joe, getting ready to give him a mouthful about watching where he was going before he realized just who it was.

"Hey," He said, fixing the other man's coat for him and resting a hand on his shoulder. "Why the rush?"

"I got it," Logan insisted, following close behind. "Where we coing?" he asked quietly.

"Not far. The meeting place is about a block over," Joe answered as he pushed his way outside, using the guy in front of him to open the door. "Not a great area, but they don't like to be seen."

"You sure it's safe for me to come?" Logan asked, doing his best to sound casual rather than afraid. "I mean... Because of who I am."

Reaching up, Joe tugged off the black hat he almost always wore and passed it to Logan. "Just keep your face turned down if you're worried. They won't question you if we don't make a big deal out of it."

Logan took the hat gratefully, sticking close to Joe's side as they walked. He watched the stranger Joe had captured, and couldn't help but ask...

"So, what did he do?"

"Hurt someone he never should've touched," Joe answered with a bit of a smirk, his hand tightening briefly on the back of the guy's neck just to hear the him gasp. "Someone's daughter."

The look on Joe's face sent a shiver down Logan's spine, and he glanced away as he continued to walk.

"Oh," he said, simply and quietly.

"He's worth a lot of money," Joe said in a low voice and the guy tensed a little at that.

"How much?" he asked and Joe shoved him harder.

"None of your goddamn business, so keep walking," he snarled in response.

There was a moment where Logan wished he was the one Joe was touching and shoving, using that tone of voice on... He shook it off though and tugged the hat down a little more to hide his face.

"So what should I do when we get there?" he asked.

"Keep quiet, keep your head down. Stand a couple feet back, keep the gun in your belt. Make it visible, but don't make it a threat," Joe told him as they neared the building. "They won't ask."

Logan nodded, tucking his gun into his belt and following Joe's lead.

He remembered, vaguely, Joe once telling him about his old partner, and Logan wondered just what had happened to the other man.

Carefully, Joe pushed open the door to the building and held it open for Logan to follow him. It was a mostly empty warehouse, a few boxes near the back and there were two men waiting there for him.

"You're early," one of them said and Joe cracked a smile, making sure to walk a few steps ahead of Logan.

"I'm good," Joe corrected, then shoved the man he was holding toward them. "He's kinda damaged, but he made a fuss."

Logan hung back like Joe had asked, but his curiosity was getting the better of him, and he inched closer to get a better look at what was going on. His eyes flickered around the large space, and then settled on the men Joe was speaking to.

Arms folded over his chest, he watched as Joe's bounty stumbled towards the two other men, wetting his suddenly dry lips as his nerves crept up on him.

"Nothing worse than what I'm going to do to him," the other man answered, then held a black briefcase out to Joe. Taking it, Joe nodded his thanks, although he didn't bother to open it yet. They weren't going to fuck him over, not for this.

"Good," Joe answered, tucking the briefcase under his arm. "We good here?"

The man nodded and said, "We're good. Thanks, Joe."

Logan looked at the man Joe had captured again, suddenly feeling a spark of guilt. Maybe the guy had fucked up, but did he really deserve whatever these two men were going to do to him?

For a moment he looked as if he might say something, his hand resting on the gun Joe had given him as he stood still in the faint light of the warehouse.
