Order of the Jobberknoll: Autumn sunday outside

Sep 17, 2011 00:21

It's autumn, and that means one thing every year, aside from the growing excitement for the Halloween feast. There's lots of first-years from all houses exploring the grounds and getting to know their housemates, fellow students and the grounds in general ( Read more... )

What remains of the Gryffindor Quidditch team are aready out for a practice before tryouts, watched by a few students down on the pitch

And further up in the stands, a seventh year with bleached blonde hair leaning her elbows on her knees, and watching the spectators as much as the team.

She sees Tyler when he appears, and waves him over.

...For a moment Tyler hesitates before climbing up into the stands, towards the blond 7th year. He's not gotten round well to getting to know everyone outside of the first years yet.

A healthy dose of caution is probably to blame for that.

"Hi."

Dinah, on the other hand, made it a point to memorise the names of all the first year Gryffindors; she's done that for the last three years since making prefect.

"Hi! Tyler, right?"

Professor Brown also enjoys watching the Quidditch. It's not the same as American Quidditch, obviously, but it's fun.

She's sitting by the bleachers, enjoying the autumn sunshine, and keeping one eye on the first-years to make sure nobody wanders too close to any of the many and various dangers of the Hogwarts grounds.

That wistful envy is familiar, and catches her eye. Steph was born to fly a broomstick, but the other players at Salem had years of practice on her by the time she could scrape up the money to own one that wouldn't fall apart. Oh, she's good now, but she never got a chance to play for her school.

"Hey. You a player?"

"No, just my first year...but I like watching the game." Tyler grins, and he knows the likelyhood of him getting a broomstick in time for try outs next year isn't that good. "I'll be a good while before I can save up for a good broom, Professor Brown."

"Oh, don't I know that feeling," Steph murmurs, smiling at him. "Hogwarts has brooms you can practice on, I think, Tyler. I could look into finding out how you borrow one if you like."

"Really?" Tyler brightens up, grinning. "You'd do that?"

He might notice his fellow first year Gryffindor Julie down by a tree. She's not tryign to be spotted mind you but she' still wearing the shell shocked expression she worn the night the Sorting Hat placed her in Gryffindor.

...He's yet to see that look leave her face since the day she first arrived at school with him. Sneaking up on Julie would probably only make her start even worse...so Tyler gives a quick whistle to let her know someone's approaching her.

She hears his approach and doesn't flinch or start...rally. It's more like she was already about to jump anyway.

"Oh, hi," she says warmly, a mix of honest friendliness and relief. She knows someday they are going to figure out she's in the wrong House and she'll likely get expelled for having the temerity to think she could be a Gryffindor.

This completely ignores the fact the Hat did the choosing, not her, of course.

Because if there's anyone in the school as poorly placed as her, it's the Marlocke boy who can't manage a single thing with his wand. If it weren't for the excellently done results of Potions class, more people would be swearing he was a Squib whose parents shoved him into Hogwarts.

Nevermind the fact that some of the upper-classmen think that anyways.

"Hey Julie." He settles down to sit next to her for a bit, digging into a robe pocket. "I got some chocolate frogs, want one?"
