It had been a quiet new year for Abigail Goodrich. She was happy to ring it in with an actual family, as dysfunctional as it may be on the inside. But still, it was a dysfunction that really was the nature of the lives they lived. She hadn't ( Read more... )

Lately, Wesley had been spending a *lot* of time at the Slayer mansion. This had two reasons. One, he could avoid his friends by pretending to be busy with work. And two, he was doing his best to take some of the burden away from Giles and make certain *he* wasn't going to bury himself into his job. Oh, Wesley knew all about that mistake. But then, so did Giles. Wesley would have never thought it possible all those years back when he had been going through his Sunnydale debacle... but the two Watchers actually got along now ( ... )

Abigail had gotten to a particularly interesting chapter of a Slayer in medieval times. These women were so brave, at least that was how their stories were told. She highly doubted their Watchers would lie about it. The bond some of these Slayers and Watchers shared was amazing. Abby could see how it could happen, though. Just being among these people here, she formed some sort of bond among a few of them. Fighting for your lives and the lives of others had to bring about some bonding experience.

She flipped to the next page when she heard a "Ow! Bloody hell!" coming out from behind her. She jumped and got to her feet, the other two books in her lap falling to the ground. Why hadn't she heard anyone coming?

She peered over the chair she sat in and saw Mr. Wyndham-Pryce there, rubbing his leg next to a low table. She blinked and picked up the books, making sure they weren't damaged before setting them gently on top of each other on the seat. She then moved over to Wesley.

Are you okay? she mouthed, pointing towards his leg. That ( ... )

Bugger. Someone was here. And wouldn't you know, it was the new Slayer he had taken under his wing. Or was supposed to take under his wing. He'd left her alone for now so that she could work the things that had happened herself. Though he had made it clear that if she needed help with that, to come find him. The girl seemed to have a level head on her shoulders and unlike most Slayers had her temper in check. And, this was rather new to Wesley, seemed very interested in the theoretical part of being a Slayer ( ... )

Abigail reached out uselessly to see if he needed help balancing himself. But he seemed to have it all under control. Wesley also seemed a little flustered that she had been there to half-witness his little accident and Abby felt bad about that right away. She blinked as he assured her he was okay while doing the sign language thing.

He had mentioned it before and the idea of her learning sign language was actually exciting. Something new to learn was what excited her the most, although, being able to communicate better wasn't so bad of an added value, either.

Stepping back a bit to give Wesley room, she stood uncertainly. When he asked about catching up on reading, she nodded and pointed to the chair she had been sitting in. She walked over and gathered the book she actually had been flipping through and faced it out to him with a shy smile.
