Spike was no more eager to be discovered by a group of young costumed Slayers than the original Chosen One herself. The last thing he wanted was for anyone to think that he'd taken Angel's mantle of Shifty Vampire Stalker. Still, as much as he liked to pretend that he didn't give a lick about any of the kiddies, he wouldn't necessarily want any of them getting into trouble if he could help it. Besides, any chance to give a few punks the old one-two for tossing eggs or getting too fresh was welcomed by the vampire; his most daring adventure in recent memory had been a trip to a party store with Robin Forehead and his merry band of misfits ( ... )

He had heard a set of young Slayers had come bouncing past the gate house, giddy as they set out for a night of trick or treating. And he had heard when Buffy had come trailing after them, no doubt having made it her personal mission to make sure nothing came along to try to ruin their fun. Naturally, Angel then had set out himself, to watch over Buffy as she watched over her charges.

Tradition might say there wouldn't even be anything out there tonight, and that to even worry would be a waste. Experience had pretty much proved that tradition to be worth a giant pile of crap. It never hurt to be careful. If something was out there tonight, he wanted the all the girls to be okay, including Buffy.

Besides, there was no way he going up to the party, especially if she wasn't even going to be there. The last Halloween party he had gone to had been enough for him to swear off of the damn things for the rest of his unnatural life, anyway ( ... )

Buffy had been so focused on the young slayers, her general slayer senses had not been as tingly when Spike popped up behind her. She jumped, whirling around quickly, stake at the ready, even though she clearly recognized the blonde vampire's voice whispering close to her ear.

"Dammit, Spike," she breathed out, annoyed, "Didn't your sire ever teach you not to sneak up on a slayer? Especially one with pointy wooden things in her hand?" She eyed him in annoyance, gradually lowering her raised stake. Her gaze suddenly shot in the direction of the throat clearing, only to see another stalking vampire pop out from the bushes. It was just a trail of stalking. She had a feeling Angel wouldn't have revealed himself if Spike hadn't beaten him to the punch. Which was a little creepy, but not anything new for their twisted relationship.

She rolled her eyes, before letting out a sigh, "Oh, jeez, really, guys?" Her hands found her hips as she looked up at both of them. "It's Halloween, aren't you vampires supposed to stay in or something? I know ( ... )

Spike darted backward as soon as he saw Buffy spin around with her stake in hand. For a split-second, he entertained the thought of a Buffy doppelgänger, or maybe some kind of spirit possession... but even that hope was snuffed soon enough. Sure, he was happy that it was still Buffy, but he'd almost gotten his hopes up for a decent tiff.

"Actually," he replied dryly, "she was busy teaching me how to sneak up on a slayer, especially in such a way to avoid the sharp bit of anything wooden she might be carrying. Congratulations, I'm sure your racing heartbeat would probably make dear old Dru right proud."

Hearing Angel's voice sound behind him, Spike rolled his eyes upward and muttered, "Oh look, here comes the moldy old root of the family tree, now." Really? Did Angel really have to be there? Just because Spike had gotten used to the older vampire actually, y'know, existing, it was no excuse for him to constantly be in his presence ( ... )
