I just finished reading The Nine: Inside the Secret World of the Supreme Court by Jeffrey Toobin, which is mostly about the Rehnquist Court. I could not put it down

i believe the rate of abortions has gone down, probably due to the wider availability of birth control pills and Plan B (of course no thanks to the republican party). i'm actually a registered republican, but i disagree with a lot of their policies. i just don't like democrats any better.
I'm registered as a Democrat but I think I am due for a lifetime of frustration with the Democratic party. I think part of what I hate about Republican leadership - that they've been pretty cohesive and driven re: specific causes for the past 20 years, and their vile but effective tactics - is what I hate the Democratic leadership for lacking :\ Wishy-washy, inherently fragmented, easily bullied... ugh. I can't respect them.
I don't really consider myself a Democrat. But I do consider myself a liberal. I definitely found myself looking up to Ginsburg, Breyer, Souter and Stevens when reading that book... all "moderate liberal" individuals rather than a mirror image of the Democratic party, unlike their conservative colleagues.
i have a hard time discussing politics because i always feel like everyone else is so much more informed than i am. and it feels like one of those things that's hard to "catch up" on, because you need to know so much history. am i making sense?
what bothers me about the politics in america (and hell, america in general) is that everything is either BLACK or WHITE. there is no gray. you're pro-life or pro-choice. you're for tax cuts or against them. you're conservative or liberal. female or male. gay or straight. everything is about labeling, and it's all just such bullshit. i suppose this is also why i have a hard time getting into politics -- it already discourages me so much, why would i want to know more?
Yeah, I totally understand and agree. There is so much stuff I have only superficial (if any) knowledge about. Like healthcare, or supposed parallels between Iraq and Vietnam, or tax cuts, or Israel, etc etc... I don't have any 2 cents on so I keep my mouth shut and just try to absorb what others are saying about it. Also it means I don't have that much knowledge to draw on to put things in context or interpret issues in an alternate way. And it's like.. I can never know quite enough to feel truly informed about any one issue. Frustrating
( ... )
I'm 100% pro-abortion (as well as pro-choice), and I don't think it's murder. But that's a fairly controversial opinion, particularly in Texas, so I rarely publicize it. =P
Other than that, WORD to your whole post. My biggest fear is that Ruth B-G will die. UHM, DON'T LEAVE ME, MY FAVOURITE JUSTICE. :(
