And now for something completely different

This month over at brigits_flame  I decided to try something a bit different. Taking a break from the darker more subversive sides of life, here's a slice of life from a small town summer. The prompt for this round is: Happiness in a Bottle.

Awwww super cute! I'm a country boy at heart, so I related to this story in a special way. The environment is really well described; you did a good job describing the atmosphere, not just the surroundings. Well done!

Boy is this a recipe: With no school for months, the girl he liked by his side, and the quiet light shining through the glass bottle, he was happy.

We lived in the Midwest when my kids were little, and I envied them the childhood they had collecting fireflies to light their bedrooms at night.

I did notgrow up in this sort of environment so I always adore literature about it. There's something about the humid Midwest summer that is so so tantalizing to me!

Aww man, now I'm nostalgic for home. Lovely images, though the ending is slightly weak. Not that I can talk...my endings are awful.

Good! That's what I wanted from readers- to capture that sense of a nostalgic place in our childhood that is no more. Thank you for your critique on the end; I appreciate hearing people's opinions! I'm quite happy with the end, personally. The pace and tone of the piece is exactly what I intended so I'm pleased. Do you have any suggestions for the end?

I love the little details in this. I always wanted to catch fireflies ... but they're in short supply up here in Wisconsin.

I'm glad you're participating this month. :)
