So, this completely random and out of the blue, but hello I think we should be friends because you seem VERY RELEVANT TO MY INTERESTS. I saw your story over on the Sherlock Holmes kinkmeme and lo, it was awesome so I wandered over to your journal in the hopes of finding more. Only to discover that you are a) a debater (parli, I'm guessing? I did policy) b) a gender and race conscious debater c) a coach from the sounds of it d) interested in people like Judith Butler and racalicious. And, uh, you change out the type of debate and I've basically just described myself. So, in short, I would like to know you better. <3
!!! That's so exciting! Debate, and Judie B, and Sherlock Holmes, oh my! I feel like we were meant to be.
I actually did LD all through high school and that's what I coach now -- I only dabble in parli debate, but I'm frustrated by the lack of evidence. I miss having cards. You coach, as well?
My apologies, I didn't even think of LD. When I started debating in college a decade ago (sigh.), LD was a high school only event, so I tend not to think of it immediately when someone mentions debating in college. I'm coaching for any particular school this year, but I was an ADOF last year and a GradAss for 2 years while getting my Master's.
LD still is basically a high school only debate. I've heard rumors of a college circuit, but apparently it is pretty much useless. I coach high school kids, not college. My college doesn't offer policy, or I'd be doing that. Maybe, I don't know -- I kinda like not having to cut thousands of pages of evidence.
