(Having successfully avoided Valentine's day - in my case, by getting a no-holds-barred sinus headache that put me to bed for most of it, but that's okay, because we both planned to do absolutely nothing for V-day, we are now packed and ready to go off for the weekend to Jamestown for a volunteer training thing.  But here's a post, because dammit,

If this were Facebook, I'd be hitting the "like" button a few dozen times. You are right, catalogs are *so* much easier to browse than Tha Interwebs.

I :
1) Love that you get the catalogs because then I have this clever, overly informed friend that always knows where to find *stuff*
2) Love the hardcopy browsing. You can't browse online worth a darn.
3) Actually have done cake 'bread' for grilled cheese. It's a worthy idea with yellow cake and the right cheese, perhaps a smackerel of fruit jam in there.

The absolute catalog champion was the pastor of my parent's church. As a member of the church council, she was frequently in the rectory and noticed there were *always* catalogs in the recycle bin. Just out of curiosity, she decided to count his Christmas catalogs one year. Between Halloween (10/31) and Christmas (12/31), he received over 750 catalogs!
