[ Technically, after blackout came back on, a few minutes after talking to Jack. ]
Sirius? It's Ella - I wanted to know if there was anything you needed. Since the chaos of the blackout, and the explosion - I asked Jack, and he said he didn't need anything, but I ought to ask you. And since I'm going shopping before my interview tomorrow, I could always pick a few things up.
[ People and their delayed calls back. What if she'd been really really worried? ]
No thanks are necessary. Things like this happen ...I thought I ought to make the offer to you guys all the same. People should help each other out, times like this.
Back during that time. I was out today too, but back then, I was out looking for a job, since my ... employer let me go, about a week or so ago. [ A bit flat in tone there. Cuz he was a jerk. ]
You were out looking for a job in the aftermath of a massive explosion. What sort of job were you looking for, precisely, was it a madwoman's job, or what.
Yes, as a matter of fact. But sadly, they were fresh out of madwoman positions. I had to settle for waitressing. It at least was something similar to my last job here.
[ More seriously, she huffs. ]
Anyway, explosion or not, it was stay at home [ And grieve and be unproductive, which was something she just couldn't do ] or get out and do something. I chose to be productive.
I think "madwoman" and "waitressing" may nearly come out to be the same thing, so you are in a bit of luck there. I'm sure you have had enough experience with your previous job to know that much.
[It's not a very good joke, and he tells it a little flatly, but--well, whatever.]
Still, none of it seems worth wandering about in that sort of thing. But I s'ppose you know your own mind.
... ooh, you may have a point there... [ A pause, because that was reeeeeally weak as far as jokes go. And she really didn't talk to him all that much - which was easily rectified, granted. So. ]
I do. Some people seem to forget that. [ Neither of the boys, thankfully, but it was frustrating when overprotective people fuss at her for doing half of the things she does. ... that and she takes every chance she can get to do something she wants to do and not something someone tells her to. ]
And I know enough to get to somewhere safe if it looked like it would have been too dangerous to be out and about. [ Save for if a friend was involved, but shh. ] ... Are you sure everything's all right?
[And now, with more than a bit of forced cheer:] But do you really! You're different than most here, if you know that much. Most here seem to seek out trouble, walk toward explosions, the lot of it. Perhaps you can quit your waitressing position and start giving lessons in common sense.
Oh yeah that was convincing. [ Sarcasms, she has it. ] And by 'convincing' I mean 'not at all. ' [ She hesitates a moment, debating on pressing the matter. ]
I don't think it's a well paid job, that. Besides, seeking out trouble for some might actually be common sense to them. The method on the other hand... needs work.
[He affects a dry tone in return to that sarcasm.] Everyone's a critic. And here I was thinking of taking to the stage. Thanks for being my honest voice of reason in regards to that venture.
[ A low chuckle at that. ] Now now, if you give up after one poor review you'll never make it as a performer. Of course I'm assuming you were going for honesty in your portrayal - if you were going for an attempted brush off, you nailed it quite nicely.
... [ A faint sigh. ] If I knew that, I'd probably be out there myself. All I know is that the matter of fighting, blowing things to pieces - it's not my way. And it can't be the only way to handle things.
Ah, but an honest review, from such an honest and trusted source--you must know what you're talking about, and I haven't any choice but to believe you. Besides, I do so love mixing drinks, I couldn't bear to give that up.
But there are a few other ways, I s'ppose. Most of them involve talking, and all of them are time-consuming, and so people don't want to wait around. That's the way it is.

If you do think of anything, let me know.

[A hesitation.] You didn't--live nearby all of that, did you.

No, my house is on the other side - Sector 5. But I caught a glimpse of it while I was out. It looked ... pretty bad. [ Understatement. ]

Oh. What were you doing out? Or--d'you mean today?

What would be your methodology, then?
