Go you, indeed! Congrats on finishing 5K with no walking! I know it feels great to meet that goal. What's next for you? Any racing in your future?

I have worked up to 4 miles, 4 times a week. I'd like to make one of those a "long" run and hope to start by getting in 5 miles pretty soon. The only trouble is that it's unbearably hot here (I run at 6 am and the temps are already in the 80's; daily highs have been over 100 degrees). Not only does that slow me down even more (as I'm very, very slow to begin with) but it really wipes me out for the rest of the day.

I love reading about your running progress so keep posting and good luck! :)

Not sure about racing. I think I'd like to do it once or twice, just to prove that I can, but I'm not really the super competitive type - at least not against other people ;) I think what I would really like to do is do a couple of charity runs and raise some money for a good cause in the process. Other than that, I think I'm going to bed down at 5k for a while and get a bit faster. I'm running 4 times a week but I don't really have time for my regular run time to be any longer than half an hour. So if I'm going to add distance then I need to get quicker.

But go you! You're going great guns - 4 miles is no mean feat! And if it were that hot here there is no chance I would be going anywhere. I did 5k on Sunday in about 25C and that nearly killed me. I am in awe of your stamina :)

I have to agree with you about the racing. I've signed up for a 5k in a few weeks but from there I'm going to wait and see. I'm not super competitive either but would just like to finish and this seemed like a nice race to do that without getting wrapped up in all the "raciness" as this 5K is rather small. There was one point in time which I thought I'd like to run a marathon but no longer think that's in the cards for me. It's a time and training commitment I'm not willing to make right now and, besides that, a marathon is a long, long distance. I just can't imagine ever wanting to run that far. :P

I know what you mean about a marathon. It's just such a long way, and it must eat your life completely to do that amount of training. And I'm not completely sure that I'd like what it would do to my body - I think I'd feel out of balance somehow. I'll see how I go with 5k, do a couple of races and then maybe do a 10k one next year. That'll be far enough for me I think, and is a realistic goal given how much time I spend at work.

Go you!

Sounds like you're getting more than a fair bit accomplished!

Feels great, don't it?

She knew everything pretty much by heart too, so she had fantastic eye contact with the audience and communicated really well with her body language. She was just so musical.

In fact I liked all of the soloists a lot, with the possible exception of the bass, who had a nice voice but didn't seem as well prepared as the others. And I thought the overall interpretation was very gentle and loving, rather than stern and unimotional as Bach can sometimes be rendered. The notes are so tricky that it's hard to move beyond them sometimes I think.

Yes - overall it was rather wonderful :)
