My navel is officially emo

Well, I've started writing morning pages as an experiment, and I'm not sure that it's going to help me much as a writer based on my first few outputs. But all the exponents of it say that it takes a while to see the benefits of that part, so I'll persevere for a bit and see what happens ( Read more... )

Don't feel bad if it doesn't work for you; I know the morning pages are considered The Method, but I tried several times (sometimes for months), which is quite something considering I am NOT a morning person, and all it did was make me stop writing my paper journal, and stop writing fiction.
It was as if, with that jumbled outpouring in the mornings, I'd spent all my creative juices for the day.
The effect got worse, rather than better over time.

I think, personally, I need different methods than hers.

On the other hand, of course, it might work for you just fine; I know it does work for many people.

That's interesting. As you say, in some circles it is regarded as The Method but I guess it only works if it works for you, if you see what I mean. It's an interesting experiment in any case. I'll let you know how I get on :)

I've never done the morning pages, because I'm so baby-duckish in the morning that I couldn't manage complete sentences of any kind. :)

And I always think I'm a teenager masquerading in the body of an adult woman. :D

Apparently complete sentences are not required. Except they are in my notebook because it would annoy the crap out of me otherwise. We'll see how it goes - it's interesting to try these things, and as I say at the moment it's another outlet for emo me :)

I'm amazed I can do it in the morning. Normally I am in serious danger of being run over if I go out of the house before about 9am. But it seems to be working OK so far. We'll see.
