It's no good - I am a raging fangirl

It's just no good. Despite the fact that I had a list of a bajillion things to do this weekend, including a vast pile of housework, I have spent most of my time lolling around reading Dr Who fanfic. Yes, my name is Atropos and I am a fangirl. In my defence I managed to find this site which actually has some interesting stuff mixed in with the ( Read more... )

You are familiar with jpgr from MfM? Her pen name is DTS. But I didn't send you there. Not me.

She did ask for my permission first. Isn't that sweet? Yeah, I got hooked on DW around 25 years ago...it was seeing "Pyramids of Mars" on a station out of New York that did it. Anyway, I have a big chunk of the classic on video and I've slowly been getting the DVDs. I've also finally gotten to see EcclesDoc ("Father's Day" just this past Friday) and I've really taken a shine to him. We won't get the DVDs until July 4. I've been doing the fanfic thing for ages, even before I knew what it was. I have some stuff up at Teaspoon but mostly it's on Fanfiction.net.

I always learn something from you. I went to the castrati site and followed the links to listen to one of them singing "Ave Maria." It didn't sound like a man or a woman: you're right: there's very little vibrato, and though I don't know what "shaping of the notes" means, it just sounded quite odd to me. The whole idea of it squicked me, and I shut it off after about 2 minutes. Still, I can say I learnt something new today, so thank you!

By shaping I was talking about how the notes didn't really have a beginning, middle and an end like they do in almost every other voice - there just seemed to be a middle somehow if you know what I mean. I also know what you mean about it being squicky. I found it fascinating to listen to but not exactly a pleasant experience.

Opinion is apparently divided about whether he was ever better than mediocre or whether he was once a great singer who was past his best when this recording was done. So I think a curiosity either way, but it does make you wonder what the really great ones sounded like in their prime.

OMG yes the Wholove. I am up to date with you guys as I have been expending my download quota getting the new episodes as soon as they show them in the UK.

Mickey is the tin dog! Shooty dog! God it was a good episode, I was grinning all the way through it. And the only Who I ever watched before was Nine.

I haven't seen this weeks yet due to a bizarre accident with nickthetuba, a large glass of Pimms and my TV remote control. But Lord, it promises to be a good one I think. Look out for rabid squeeing sometime around Wednesday when my TV service is returned to normality :)

I can completely understand that. It's fascinating, but definitely creepy.
