There's more IBD2 in cordelia_v's journal, here. It's sort of far in the IBD2 future -- it takes place in late December, whereas the story itself starts in early September, and there's very little substance. We all have our kinks. Yours is proofreading. Personally, I can't turn off the part of my brain that does fact- and date-checking, and double checks chronology. Of course, that's part of my profession.

Anyway, that's a lead in to say that I think you need to set this in January, 1997, and not Dec. 1996. Snape says he's 37 in this ficlet, and he didn't reach that age until Jan. 9, 1997. Or, if it needs to be December, then he has to be 36.
