One reason why i loved it - which should be no surprise, overall, as I don't think you've ever written anything I didn't like: most fic focuses on the fact that Tony's clearly messed up, has issues, has more issues coming up in future, et cetera. No-one ever looks at the fact that Pepper chooses to orbit him, and clearly has some issues of her own to want to do that. :)

Yeah, that's a good point. Like, it can't be just that he pays her, because they're more than a little codependent, and how do you pay someone for that? I think in my other fic he's going to try to fire her. Or something.

Also, one thing I was playing with in this story, but it didn't actually make it in because I couldn't quite figure out how to do it and didn't want to spend the time, is, that part where Pepper is not a robot? That's true, but I think in some ways, Tony built Pepper as much as he built Jarvis. I wonder how much of who she is is because she's been with Tony for a million years.

Oh this is excellent. I like how you tread dark waters with such a light touch -- it's gentle and it kind of rocks you back and forth, but this is Tony, so it's rough on you and they're a little heartbreaking, especially that way Pepper has of being so self aware and all the more dangerous for it. It's got that feeling of something both sad and extraordinary happening behind closed doors, and you almost want it to stay that way. Nicely done.
