Casual space travel is closer than ever. We're going from the pinnacle of 1970s technology designed by the government to meet design requirements that it never actually needed, to lightweight, fast, and reusable space-planes. We're going from a system where if you have perfect eyesight, incredible health, a PhD or two, and are incredibly lucky, you might get to take a trip on the Shuttle, to a system where you just need a couple of hundred grand- and that price will likely drop. We're going from NASA to Virgin Galactic.

The US government is the only loser here. The rest of us are in better shape.
