Carson led the Hoffan medical team back to the infirmary. Jerry had already gone there to start organizing things. What met Carson's eyes -- and his nose -- when he got there was appalling. Pat was at his heels, filling him in on what had happened and the measures she'd had to take.

Pat was surprised at the profound sense of relief she felt at Carson's return. Now she could focus on the dead instead of trying to keep people alive. Or, at the very least, keeping people alive wasn't her only job anymore. But first ... first she would need rest.

At Carson's dismissal, she stumbled away from the infirmary to find a place to sleep. She wouldn't even attempt to get back to her quarters -- too far and too many unknowns between here and there. The Athosians had made it clear that they were welcome among them, so she made her way to the nearest Athosian quarters, hoping to grab a shower and wrap herself in warm blankets, not to mention cuddling into a pile of friends and their families, huddling together to stay warm and safe.

John walked into the infirmary, watching with admiration as Carson got people going on various tasks, every bit as commanding as any general John had ever seen. He stood waiting till Carson had a moment rather than interrupting. When the last person hovering near Carson scurried away at last, John walked up, clearing his throat.

"Hey, Doc. Elizabeth wanted me to get my hands checked."

"Oh, Major, good. I'm glad you came," he said. "Let me get a look at you." He brought Sheppard over to an exam station, cleaning it himself quickly before he made the man sit. "How did you get your hands injured, lad?"

Carson blinked, taking in Sheppard's appearance. He'd not seen Major Lorne anywhere... "Did Evan survive?" he asked softly, afraid to hear the answer and feeling luckier than ever that he still had Rodney.
