Co-written with Nicke, Flubb, and CajunJack looked around the room, feeling anxious. Would Halling understand? He'd given Carson permission to discuss his case with Halling. He could only hope that the Athosian leader wasn't offended. He debated discussing the problem with the rest of his team. If they were going to work together, he was going to ( Read more... )

"Sounds like Thanksgiving, only worse. But all the food you only got once a year sort of made up for the awkwardness of standing around holding hands and praying with all your cousins and great aunts and your uncle's newest girlfriend that was never there for more than one Thanksgiving," Jack said, realising this probably didn't make any sense to Halling. "Thanksgiving is, ah, sort of an American harvest festival, I guess you'd call it. Oh, and Canada. They do it in Canada, too, but on a different day."

Halling took a serving from the dish he was offered. "We have such traditions. We give thanks for making it through another year and for all the good things that our world has provided for us."

As he passes the dish along he asked, "What are we eating today?"

Halling knew that it would be something Lantean and he was looking forward to it.

Jack took the next dish from Hansen. "Looks like chicken tenders and mashed potatoes and some kind of biscuits and salad," he answered. "And various puddings and some fruit cobbler for dessert."

Thias took a little bit of everything before passing the serving dishes to Jackson. He didn't completely believe that the food was 'real' and not some substitution but in the end, he'd eat it anyway. He wasn't one to turn down a meal. "We celebrate various holidays but we don't add a prayer," he said in order for Halling to understand that not everyone was the same.

Jack nodded. "A lot depends on the person, the family, their religious beliefs or lack thereof, and the holiday for that matter." He tried to think of an example he could explain. "We have a holiday throughout many nations of our world celebrating a religious figure's birth where we typically give each other gifts. I always tore into mine as soon as my parents were in the room." That wasn't quite true, as it had been Jack O'Neill who'd done that, but that was too much explaining. "I had a friend whose parents insisted on a big breakfast and reading the legend of the birth and then prayer before he and his siblings could open theirs, and then they each took turns opening one at a time." He grinned. "My Christmas morning was done before the sun was up. They took hours."
