Kate had been dropped off near the Athosian village so that she could talk to Radek and assess his current condition. As she made her way there, she worried that Radek didn’t trust her. That he probably didn’t even like her and so whatever he told her most likely wouldn’t be the truth.
Selen was among those greeting Rannal and the new arrivals. A few times a day one of their number would go to the Lantean DRASH and speak to those residing in the City of the Ancestors, so that they were certain all was well and so that plans could be made. He was unsurprised, therefore, to see Doctor Heightmeyer among the arrivals. He was unhappy at the continued interference in Radek's life by the Lantean healers who had ill-helped him before, but he was aware that the medicines Radek had been taken could have bad effects when stopped suddenly, as he had observed in the last couple of days. It was, perhaps, better to have a healer who knew these medicines better to make sure Radek was safe. He inclined his head to her. "Good day to you, Doctor. Radek is within my tent."
Kate made her way to the Athosian village without any trouble but still thought the cold was yucky. She also worried about her reception among the Athosians considering how they closed ranks and their mistrust of her. Granted, not all of the Athosians were like that but enough of them were. And then there was Radek. He didn't trust her and that hurt.
"Hello Selen," she replied with a friendly smile. "Thank you, I'll head that direction."
They'd known Heightmeyer would be coming, and Selen had left Radek with instructions to try to let her help him, and take seriously her advice about his medications. He'd also left Radek with a promise, that if he needed out, if she tried to force him to do anything, or suggested things that he knew were wrong, he could call for help and help would come. Radek knew he meant it, and so steeled himself to meet her, assured by Selen's promise and honor bound by his instructions

Kate forced her feelings back into their closet and greeted Radek warmly. "Hello Radek." She looked around the tent for the best place to sit but she would let Radek make that decision. "I want to thank you for seeing me," she said. "Is there a certain place that you like me to sit?"
Radek shrugged at her question, even as he knew she would be bending over backward to make him feel comfortable. The trouble was that nothing she had to tell him would make him comfortable, and little things like where she sat really didn't matter that much to him in comparison. He was sitting on a cushion on the floor, as he had gotten used to doing the last few days, and he knew she would never be so thoughtless as to sit somewhere higher than he was.
"Wherever you will be comfortable is fine," he said, making an effort not to sound sullen.
